Under general direction, performs enhanced inmate services and release coordination and works directly with incarcerated individuals to connect them to resources that will support successful transition back into the community. 

The Sheriff's Office Program Coordinator is currently a temporary grant-funded position. This position will be required to pursue future grant opportunities in an effort keep the position funded. The Navajo County policy and procedures provides the following terms for grant-funded positions: Grant-funded positions: Grant-funded positions may be regular or temporary and may be full-time or part-time. These status issues will be determined individually with each position, based on terms specified in the grant. Regular full-time and eligible part-time grant-funded positions will have all of the same benefits as regular positions funded by the County. If the grant funding is canceled for any reason, the position is automatically eliminated and the employee is laid off. The layoff is effective no later than the date the grant funds are exhausted. Grant-funded positions may be classified or unclassified depending upon the appropriate criteria as stated in Section 1.53.(Essential function, as defined under the Americans with Disabilities Act, may include the following tasks, knowledge, skills and other characteristics.   • Prepare departmental or other reports as required.
  • Oversee all contracted services, data collection, and reporting requirements and ensures programs comply with all Federal, State, and County guidelines.
  • Assists with completing reentry screenings and ensures that individuals booked into the adult detention facility are offered screenings and reentry services. 
  • Create, implement, and revise individualized case/release plans which include previous behavioral health and social determinants of health services, and historical criminal justice involvement for inmates.
  • Works in close collaboration with SUD and SMI Coordinators to ensure coordination of care for transition back to the community
  • Advocate for inmates for reentry needs.
  • Work collaboratively with clinical and justice stakeholders to compile information to better identify resources and provide service linkage for inmates upon release.
  • Coordinate with the courts and criminal justice partners to ensure all court appointments and obligations are met. Assist the courts in establishing release conditions.
  • Interface and coordinate with Detention personnel regarding the facilitation of services for inmates.
  • Attend community meetings coordinating the programs available through the Sheriff’s Office.
  • Work directly with inmates to ensure Reentry Services are being delivered and makes program improvements.
  • Promote and adheres to the mission, vision and values of the Sheriff’s Office
  • Maintain confidentiality of all work-related issues, records and restricted information.
  • Collaborate with third parties, court personnel, and other criminal justice and behavioral health partners
  • Perform “special projects” as assigned by the Sheriff or the command staff.
  • Ability to be adept in various policies and procedures impacting the Sheriff’s Office
  • Ability to be proficient in federal, state and local laws, regulations, rules and ordinances related to local government operations.
  • Ability to apply principles and practices of supervision and public administration
  • Ability to apply all forms of clerical and office practices and procedures
  • Ability to be proficient in the utilization of research and report writing
  • Ability to analyze complex legislative issues and recommending solutions
  • Ability in research, evaluation and to use new methods and techniques for operational improvements
  • Ability to effectively communicate both verbally and in writing
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships
  • Skill in public speaking and presenting using various forms of audio video equipment
  • Knowledge of DSM V and diagnoses
  • Knowledge and critical understanding of law enforcement activities and details as related to behavioral health and substance use.
High School Diploma or G.E.D.; AND bachelor’s in behavioral science, criminal justice or related field; AND a minimum of two (2) years of progressively responsible in a detention or behavioral health setting: AND valid AZ driver’s license. And equivalent combination of directly related work experience and education may substitute for the degree requirement on a year per year basis.

Salary : $50,275 - $62,787
