Position Summary:
Under direct supervision of the Facility Manager, accomplishes the Facility Office’s strategic objectives by planning and organizing the assigned functions required to operate and maintain departmental activities and services. Incumbent is expected to perform most work in an independent manner. Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
- Implements the Joint Commission Accreditation of Healthcare Organization.
- Performs manual labor as needed to maintain hospital facility and residential campus.
- Performs preventive ground maintenance around buildings and residential units.
- Maintain a safe work environment.
- Keeps sidewalks, parking lots and streets maintained and safe for patients and employees’ access to all buildings.
- During winter clear snow and ice off sidewalks and spread Ice Foe on roadways and pedestrian pathways around hospital buildings.
- Pick up trash cans daily and take accumulated trash to dumpster.
- Maintain landscape by cutting, pruning, weeding, fertilizing, watering and planning lawns, trees, hedges and other plants.
- Maintain and repair sprinkler systems.
- Operate and maintain power and hand tools and equipment’s utilized in maintenance of hospital grounds (i.e., lawn mowers, lawn tractors, weed eaters, leaf blowers, etc.)
- Operate and maintain front-end loader, backhoe and tractor.
- Complete jobs requested by work orders in a timely manner.
- Assist with maintaining and repairing sewer lines.
- Assist with maintenance and repairs on the plumbing systems, such as pumps and pipes, water system, etc. May occasionally involve minor modifications, replace and repairs various other fixtures, such as faucets, p-trap, etc. Clean clogged drains and sewer lines.
- Assist with inspection on buildings, range exhaust hood, roofing, floor tiles, fire extinguisher, interior/exterior walls and ceilings, etc.
- Participate in and attend in-service and educational programs.
- Meet and comply with Personnel Policies and Procedures.
- Always maintain confidentiality.
- Notify Facility Manager of materials, supplies and/or equipment needed.
- Must be willing to assist around the Morgue to do repairs.
- Assist other maintenance personnel, plumber, electrician and other skilled workers as needed.
- Maintain inventory or materials, supplies, tools, and equipment for grounds.
- Must assist in the “Emergency responds team “on-call” duties.
- Performs other duties as assigned and required.
Knowledge, Abilities, Skills, and Certifications:
- Knowledge of methods, tools, materials and equipment used for grounds.
- Knowledge of applicable The Joint Commission Accreditation for facility.
- Knowledge of company policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of plant care, landscaping, small engine repairs.
- Ability to communicate effectively in the English language both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to establish and maintain professional relationships with individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds and with co-workers at all levels.
- Ability to speak the Navajo language and/or familiarity with the Navajo way.
- Ability to work independently and meet strict timelines.
- Skill in analyzing problems, projecting consequences, identifying solutions and implementing recommendations.
- Operate all grounds working equipment – hand and power tools safely.
- Must be able to produce neat, finished work with minimal supervision.
- Ability to be "On-Call" weeknights, Saturday and Sunday(s), also, Holidays on rotation as needed.
Physical Demands:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee regularly is required to stand for extended periods; use hands to finger, handle, or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear. The employee frequently is required to sit; and walk. The employee occasionally is required to climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl. The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 50 pounds.
Work Environment:
Works is generally performed outside in adverse weather conditions. Extended hours and irregular shifts may be required. Works inside and outside and is subject to all types of conditions from clean, well-lighted and heated interior to unheated, dark, dusty crawls spaces, noisy, dirty and smelly areas. Possibility of personal injury if not all safety measures are followed.
