Summary:The Building Maintenance Handy Person is responsible for performing a variety of maintenance and repair tasks to ensure the safe, efficient, and well-functioning operation of buildings and facilities. This role requires a strong blend of technical skills, problem-solving abilities, and a proactive approach to maintenance.

Responsibilities:

General Maintenance:Conduct routine inspections of buildings and facilities to identify maintenance needs. Perform basic repairs, including plumbing, electrical, HVAC, and carpentry tasks. Maintain and repair building systems such as lighting, heating, cooling, and ventilation. Address issues related to doors, windows, floors, walls, and ceilings.

Preventive Maintenance:Develop and implement a preventive maintenance schedule for equipment and systems. Lubricate and clean machinery, tools, and equipment regularly to ensure their longevity. Replace worn-out parts, such as filters and belts, to prevent breakdowns.

Troubleshooting and Problem Solving:Diagnose issues with building systems and equipment to identify the root causes of problems. Recommend and implement solutions to rectify maintenance-related challenges. Respond to emergency maintenance requests promptly and efficiently.

Documentation:Keep detailed records of maintenance activities, repairs, and replacements performed. Maintain an inventory of tools, equipment, and supplies, ensuring they are well-organized and in good condition.

Safety and Compliance:Adhere to safety protocols and regulations while performing maintenance tasks. Ensure that all work is completed in compliance with building codes and standards. Report any safety hazards or concerns to the appropriate supervisor.

Communication:Communicate effectively with team members, supervisors, and other relevant stakeholders. Provide regular updates on maintenance activities and projects. Collaborate with external contractors and vendors as needed.

Skill Enhancement:Stay updated on industry trends, best practices, and new technologies in building maintenance. Participate in training sessions and workshops to enhance skills and knowledge.

Qualifications

Qualifications:

• High school diploma or equivalent; vocational or technical training in building maintenance is a plus.

• Proven experience in general building maintenance, including carpentry skills.

• Strong problem-solving abilities and a proactive approach to identifying and addressing maintenance issues.

• Good understanding of safety protocols, building codes, and regulations.

• Ability to use a variety of tools and equipment safely and effectively.

• Excellent communication skills to interact with colleagues and stakeholders.

• Detail-oriented and organized with the ability to maintain accurate records.

• Physical stamina and dexterity to perform tasks that may involve lifting, climbing, and working in various weather conditions.

• Willingness to learn and adapt to new technologies and techniques in building maintenance.
