JOB PURPOSE :

The Counseling Education Assistant Professor provides high-quality instruction and facilitates meaningful learning experiences. The instructor ensures that course competencies are effectively taught and applied, fostering students' academic and professional growth in counseling and clinical practice.

This position adheres to all terms and provisions outlined in the NTU faculty contract and requires expertise in counseling and clinical training, as well as prior teaching experience. JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES :

Develops, selects, and maintains current curriculum, course materials, and instructional resources, including ordering course books and supplies.
Creates and maintains a learning environment that supports student success and engagement.
Prepares lesson plans using diverse instructional strategies to meet students' educational, social, and emotional needs.
Instructs students in their field of study and evaluates their progress through assessments, tests, and feedback.
Supervises and mentors student interns to ensure meaningful and productive learning experiences.
Maintains accurate attendance records and submits required reports.
Advises students on degree or certificate programs, referring them to specialized services when needed.
Provides timely progress evaluations, performance feedback, and grades.
Participates in community service initiatives and promotes student involvement.
Supports accreditation efforts by assisting in program reviews and measuring student outcomes.
Contributes to student recruitment and retention efforts.
Holds regular office hours to assist students and help them secure internships.
Participates in faculty meetings, committees, and professional development activities.
Maintains confidentiality of all privileged information.
May conduct research, identify grant opportunities, and submit proposals.
May advise student clubs and collaborate with colleagues on shared initiatives.
Performs other duties as assigned.

SUPERVISION RESPONSIBILITIES :

Supervises students during internship.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS :

Master's degree or higher in Counseling or a Masters degree in a closely-related field with counseling license.

Three years teaching experience in field of study.

Maintains educational competencies in area of instruction.

Professional excellence, community service and / or publication.

Valid and clean state driver's license.

Must be able to pass background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies and no history of child abuse and / or neglect .

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS / REQUIREMENTS :

Ph.D. / Terminal degree in Counseling or a related field.

Five years teaching experience in field of study.

Maintains educational competencies in area of instruction.

Professional excellence, community service and / or publication.

Valid and clean state driver's license.

Must be able to pass background check, with NO prior convictions of any felonies and no history of child abuse and / or neglect .

The Navajo Nation Preference in Employment Act applies to all hiring, promotions or transfers of individuals into this position.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY REQUIREMENTS :

Knowledge of applicable federal, state, county and local laws, regulations, and requirements.

Knowledge of field of study.

Knowledge of techniques and practices in field.

Knowledge of University policies and procedures.

Knowledge of instructional policies and procedures.

Skilled in operating computers and office machines.

Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

Ability to organize and express ideas, directions, and data in a logical sequence to describe a process, or explain procedures such as how to perform a task to students.

Ability to present materials effectively to individual students or groups.

Ability to manage interpersonal conflict situations requiring tact, diplomacy and discretion.

Ability to work independently and meet strict time lines.

Ability to oversee the work of students.

Ability to establish and maintain good working relationships with the individuals of varying social and cultural backgrounds.

Ability to communicate effectively in the Navajo and English language.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS :

While performing the duties of this job, the employee frequently sits, stand, walk, bend, stoop, and squat.

Use hands for dexterity of motion, r epetitive movement of both hands .

Have excellent auditory, visual acuity, and verbal communications skills.

The employee must occasionally lift and carry up to 25 pounds.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

Work is typically performed within an office, classroom or laboratory.

Tight time constraints and multiple demands may be required.

Evening and / or weekend work may be required on occasion.

Salary : $56,350
