MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
High School Diploma or GED Certificate.
Vocational or specialized training in microwave technology.
Knowledge of the National Association of Business and Educational Radio (NABER), National Association of Radio International (NARTE), Society of Certified Electronics Technician (ISCET), or Federal Communications Commission (FCC) Certification.
6 years of Electrical System Construction experience.
5 to 7 years of installation, operations and maintenance of microwave and communication systems experience.
2 to 3 years of supervisory experience.
Requires a Valid Driver's License (subject to motor vehicle review.)
JOB RESPONSIBILITIES AND PERFORMANCE OBJECTIVES:
Improves staff effectiveness by counseling, training and recommending corrective action for employees; planning, delegating, monitoring, and appraising job tasks and results in a timely manner.
Oversees the supervision of personnel, which includes work allocation, time approval, hiring, training, orientation, and problem resolution; evaluates performance and makes recommendations for personnel actions; motivates employees to achieve peak productivity and performance.
Develop measurable performance expectations for assigned staff according to department goals and objectives.
Analyzes and resolves work problems. Initiates or suggests plans to motivate workers to achieve work goals.
Leads the deployment of installations, tests, and maintains telecommunications, microwave equipment, waveguide, coax, and antenna systems.
Ensures all circuits, hardware, software and related equipment and facilities are at optimum performance and meet FCC regulations.
Deploys of microwave team to troubleshoot outages throughout network.
Researches, gathers, and compiles relevant technical information and evaluates new products and services from vendors.
Analyzes microwave problems and needs and determines appropriate configurations of telecommunications hardware and software.
Develops standard operating procedures and executes under routine and emergency maintenance windows to ensure customer service is operating at optimal performance.
Provides technical support (design, estimating, and coordination with Engineering and Contractors) for new microwave installations.
Operates computer terminal to monitor and analyze communication systems and generate reports.
Adjusts, repairs, or replaces system components, including programming and reprogramming software and hardware.
Reads, understands and interprets technical blueprints, construction drawings, and specifications related to fiber optic cabling, copper wiring, and other telecommunications infrastructure.
Maintains equipment and parts inventories, equipment operating and maintenance manuals and equipment history records.
Uses Network Management System for system monitoring and control.
Oversees equipment specifications for review and approval.
Oversees records, reports and correspondence as required.
Assists with overhead and underground communication cable installation, including tower installation and maintenance.
Mentors microwave technicians for in field issues and how to resolve outstanding outages in a timely manner.
Works with Microwave Supervisor on developing plans to reduce the overall Mean Time to Restore (MTTR).
Performs standby duties as outlined in Personnel Policy and Procedures.
Inspects, maintains, schedules housekeeping at all sites. Keep shelters clean and areas around the tower clean of vegetation and debris. Schedules tower, fence, grounding, shelter, DC power plant and related equipment for maintenance and housekeeping.
Assists other NTUA departments and entities to help maintain their networks.
Maintains antenna systems and antenna supports requiring climbing to heights of 190 feet above base.
Performs other duties as assigned.
Ensures the equipment is in safe operating condition by performing a visual inspection prior to use.
Observes safety rules and ensures and maintains a safe environment.
Maintains records of scheduled and completed maintenance, work orders and other reports as requested; completes forms according to established policies and procedures. Prepares and submits reports. Notifies appropriate agencies and prepares reports as necessary.
