Summary You will serve as a HIGH VOLTAGE ELECTRICIAN in the PUBLIC WORKS DEPARTMENT of NAVFAC SOUTHWEST. Responsibilities You will install and maintain overhead and underground distribution lines as assigned. You will install, modify, and replace generation and distribution equipment in substations, power-generating facilities, transformer vaults, or distribution centers. You will use test devices (e.g., voltmeters, ohmmeters, meggers) and electrical tools to conduct basic checks for continuity, resistance, voltage, shorts, insulation breakdowns, and grounds. You will set correct wire tension or sag in accordance with strength and weight of wire. You will troubleshoot distribution circuits, generating, and controlling equipment to locate and correct the cause of outages. You will troubleshoot distribution circuits to locate shorts, opens, grounds, crosses, damage, capacitance imbalances, and cable breaks. Your resume must show that you have the ability to perform common tasks under general supervision including : 1) Following instructions to repair high voltage electrical power-generating and distribution equipment (e.g., generators, transformers, switches, circuit breakers, recording instruments, and control systems); 2) Reading circuit drawing and diagrams to identify electrical problems; and 3) Using safety equipment such as hot sticks, rubber blankets, and insulated gloves when working on energized high voltage electrical systems.
