Job Description

The Spent Fuel Handling Recapitalization Project (SFHP), a $4B construction project, is seeking an intermediate electrical engineer to join the Facilities Engineering team and assist in their mission to provide oversight to construction subcontractors, ensure customer needs are being met, the as-built configuration of the facility meets the technical and functional requirements, provide cost estimating support for technical change requests, review subcontractor proposals for technical accuracy, and provide oversight of deficiency reporting and resolution. The primary focus of this position will be the facility industrial network and information security infrastructure. For example, the facility design took many years to complete, and some specified network components may have become obsolete. This position will review any subcontractor substitution requests to ensure that the recommended replacement meets all customer needs, ensure full compatibility with the remainder of the network, and do not introduce reliability or security vulnerabilities. At the completion of each change, the engineer will produce a summary of the change and how requirements continue to be met. This summary will be included in the final requirement compliance matrix. In addition to the position primary duties, this position will also provide backup to the lead electrical power engineer as they perform similar oversight of the low and medium voltage electrical power distribution system. As an intermediate engineer, you will be expected to complete simple engineering tasks on your own, after minimal training and instruction. More complex tasks will require you to team effectively with teams of diverse experience, disciplines, and backgrounds. As you gain experience working in the Naval Nuclear Laboratory environment, you may get the opportunity to lead small teams. The diversity in potential work assignments, along with the collective expertise of the community at NNL provides engineers the opportunity to continue gaining technical skills and broadening their experience throughout their careers while tackling exciting and challenging assignments.
