Apply today!Job Description The Component Engineering team is seeking a highly motivated Mechanical Engineer to drive thermal and hydraulic testing that supports components in the current fleet and evaluates critical technologies for future ship classes. The successful candidate will join a highly collaborative group of talented and experienced engineers who enthusiastically execute testing and help to advance the state-of-the-art in the labs at NNL. This position involves frequent hands-on opportunities to be away from a desk and oversee testing operations. The test engineer role also provides an excellent opportunity to gain experience with mechanical, electrical, and fluid systems while making a significant impact on the technology that protects our country. Strong communication skills are required as the successful candidate will frequently interact with other NNL organizations, management, and outside suppliers. Ownership is also requisite, as the successful candidate will have a vested interest in the success of assigned test programs and will be critical to ensuring that quality is maintained during testing. This position provides an excellent opportunity to develop practical engineering experience by leading the testing of Navy components with a direct line-of-sight to the fleet. The successful candidate will develop and apply broad engineering knowledge to execute testing, where responsibilities include, but are not limited to : formulating test plans and test resumes to secure test approvals, designing and procuring specialized test components and hardware, creating and maintaining test schedules, authoring work control documents and component test specifications, coordinating the daily follow of testing in labs at the Bettis site, and generating test reports to document test data and observations. Infrequent travel to local suppliers may be required to support fabrication and manufacturing efforts in this role. Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill Bachelors degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in engineering or science related field.Preferred Skills Strong problem solving, teaming, and communication skills. Basic knowledge of mechanical design, fluids, heat transfer, and / or CAD tools. Basic programming capabilities with Matlab and / or Python. Previous experience with testing in a laboratory or industrial environment.
