Apply today!Job Description The Technology Directorate is seeking an expert Computational Scientist / Physicist to lead the continuum modeling of transient and steady-state transport phenomena within the Structural Materials Performance (SMP) unit of the Core Materials, Manufacturing & Irradiations (CMMI) department. The SMP Unit is responsible for the development and maintenance of the finite element solutions and implementation of hydrogen transport within our nuclear cores. The ideal candidate will have interest and experience in adapting and applying the results of fundamental, lower-length-scale models to finite element formulations suitable for simulations at the component scale. The selected candidate will be working alongside experimentalists which will aid in the collection of data to support validation of transport solutions and finite element implementation. Responsibilities include :

  • Program finite element methods such as user elements in Abaqus
  • Adapt methods to other finite element frameworks such as MOOSE
  • Work with experimentalists to plan complex test programs to aid in methods validation
  • Complete written documentation of all scientific work
  • Communicate complex ideas to stakeholders, including upper management and clients Required Combination of Knowledge and Skill Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university in Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering and 9 years of relevant experience; or Master's degree from an accredited college or university in Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering and 7 years of relevant experience; or a PhD degree from an accredited college or university in Mathematics, Physics, or Engineering and 3 years of relevant experience; or Currently or previously Shift Supervisor Part II qualified; or qualified SIT and 3 years EOOW qualified in the Nuclear Operations Program; or Currently or previously CRE qualified; or 6 years as SRE; or SRE qualified and 9 years of experience. Previous experience with development of finite element analysis solutions using User Elements (preferably Abaqus) Previous experience with development of mass-transport solutions (Numerical solutions of PDEs) Previous experience with software and scripting development (i.e. C , Fortran, and / or Python)Preferred Skills
  • Experience with multiple FEA development platforms (Abaqus, MOOSE, ..etc.)
