Navarre Middle School

Position Summary

You will work to transform student outcomes at Navarre middle school, a school in the South Bend Empowerment Zone. You will ensure that all students receive outstanding academic, social, and emotional support and services at your school. You will serve as an instructional, strategic, and cultural leader at your school, working closely with staff, families, community members, and partners to ensure that all students are set up for success.

Who We Are:

In the spring of 2019, The Indiana State Board of Education (SBOE) approved the creation of the South Bend Empowerment Zone due to persistent and chronic low levels of student achievement and growth. The South Bend Empowerment Zone is comprised of Wilson, Warren, Harrison, and Coquillard Elementary schools, and Navarre Middle school. Our charge from the SBOE and the South Bend Community School Corporation is to dramatically transform student achievement and growth at our schools over the course of the five-year intervention.

In the South Bend Empowerment Zone, we understand the importance of providing our children with a rigorous and responsive education that gives them the foundation to lead a life full of opportunity, joy, and empowerment. We also believe that leadership exists at all levels and we are excited about the enhanced leadership opportunities that will be provided to students, families, and staff/teachers next year in service to a stronger student, family, and staff/teacher experience.

Who You Are:

  • You are committed to the success of all South Bend students and have a track record of raising the academic achievement of children of color and children living in poverty.
  • You have superior leadership and management skills and a demonstrated ability to develop a vision and inspire others to achieve shared goals.
  • You believe in distributed leadership and support all stakeholders to identify as leaders with a voice and a responsibility in the solutions that are devised.
  • You are skilled at developing trust (high credibility, high reliability, high intimacy, low self-orientation) amongst a variety of stakeholders and rallying them around a student-centered vision.
  • You are a creative and thinker and can effectively manage others towards outcomes and ambitious goals despite significant obstacles and ambiguity.
  • You have a keen ability to build and cultivate relationships with a wide variety of internal and external stakeholders.
  • You have excellent communication skills and thrive in a fast-paced and complex environment.
  • You understand the complexity and urgency of developing a strong strategy to contribute to the success of a dynamic team and ensuring strong academic and social/emotional outcomes for children of color and children living in poverty.
  • You are relentlessly focused on results and committed to continuous improvement.
