Navarro Research and Engineering, Inc. is hiring a Technical Consultant II Underground Oversight in Carlsbad, NM.

The Technical Consultant II responsibilities of this position include performing oversight of WIPP Site underground operations to ensure compliance with applicable requirements for the safe handling and emplacement of mixed TRU waste in the underground repository, as well oversight of general overall mining activities.
Duration :
This position is projected to last approximately one year and then be revaluated for continued duration at that time.
Responsibilities will include but may not be limited to oversight of the following :
- waste handling activities such as U / G waste transport and waste emplacement activities;
- personnel training and qualification for U / G waste handling personnel, RadCon technicans, mining operations personnel, maintenance personnel, etc.;
- Mining activities such as salt mining, floor milling, rib cutting, material transporting, and hoisting activities;
- ground control activities such as scaling, bolting, and fencing;
- U / G equipment maintenance such as mining machinery, salt haulers, bolters
- U / G waste handling operations for abnormal events;
- use of facility transfer vehicles;
- forklift operations;
- equipment calibration;
- equipment, packaging, and facility maintenance;
- radiological surveys, abnormal radiologic conditions, radiological posting and access controls, and emergency radiological control responses;
- conduct of operations;
- work control processes and activities;
- procedure development;
- Lockout / Tagout;
- logkeeping;
- Issues Management.
Requirements
Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field of study with 20 years of experience OR a master’s degree in an applicable field of study with 15 years of experience, OR a Ph.D. in a related discipline with 10 years of experience (as approved by the Contracting Officer). A TC II should have demonstrated expert knowledge and specialized experience (as requested by the Contracting Officer – due to industry recognition) in hazardous or nuclear waste generation or waste management, or as a RCRA regulator or facility expert, or in a technical discipline associated with the operation of a nuclear facility or laboratory.
