Overview
The VP Finance oversees financial operations including ledger maintenance, accounts payable, accounts receivable, payroll, revenue and asset accounting, as well as associated analysis and reporting. Evaluates and makes improvements to accounting processes while ensuring that practices comply with organization accounting policies and applicable laws and regulations. This position requires a bachelor's degree. VP Finance is responsible for leading, directing, and managing subordinate staff in the day-to-day performance of their jobs. Ensures that department goals are met and adheres to approved budgets. Must have extensive knowledge of departmental processes.
Responsibilities
FINANCE RELATED
- Cultivate and maintain strong working relationships with our financial partners
- Create and maintain tracking reports to monitor all outstanding debt obligations
- Lead the preparation of annual business plan and all departmental budgets
- Collaborate with auditors on annual audit
- Review packets for loan requests
ACCOUNTING RELATED
- Work with each department head to create and standardize departmental budget format and content
- Create process for minimum of quarterly variance review of all departmental budgets
- Review monthly P&L and balance sheet reports and review process
- Create process to do detailed close out financial review of each closed home
- Review and modify tracking and reporting approaches
- Create cash flow tracking methodology and report
OTHER
- Enthusiastically embrace role of “healthy antagonist” as the controller and arbiter of the purse strings.
Qualifications
Educational and experience requirements include:
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting or an equivalent level of training/experience
- Relevant experience in an accounting or office management role, preferably in a related industry
- Broad knowledge of accounting, financial reporting, A/R and A/P processes
- Strong accuracy and attention to detail
- Above average written and verbal communication skills to interact with customers, vendors and internal team
- Proven budgeting and cash flow management skills
Skills, Knowledge, Abilities, and Mental Requirement
- Ability to work independently
- Ability to work in unison with trusted advisor
- Real Estate, Home Building, and/or Construction experience
- Strong understanding of accounting systems implementation
- Strong verbal and written communication
- Team player – open to listening to all views
