Claims Adjuster

Navis Marine Insurance Brokerage, a proud partner of Navacord, is a boutique brokerage specializing in all things marine. We are looking for a Claims Adjuster to join our team.

The Claims Adjuster is the Claims Lead, responsible for handling claims for Yacht and Commercial customers from initiation to settlement, ensuring that the customer is kept informed throughout the process.  This includes setting up and managing the claim file, reporting the claim to the appropriate underwriter and insurance company, coordinating with surveyors, adjusters and trades throughout the process, and assessing and settling the claim within authority limits. This position reports directly to the Chief Operating Officer and works closely with the all internal teams and external partners.

The salary band is $80,000 to $90,000 dependent on experience.

 

As the Claims Adjuster, you are accountable for:  

  • Leading the investigation, assessment and settlement of the claims for yacht and commercial marine insurance customers
  • To act as the first point of contact for customers to initiate a claim, by answering customer emails, phone calls or in person visits in a courteous and professional manner.
  • To assist with general claims processing and documentation for both the Yacht Department and Commercial Department.
  • Setting up the claim file and updating the file throughout the claim process.
  • Ensuring claims are properly reported to underwriters and insurance companies.
  • Track the progress of the claim and ensure all clients are informed of the claim status.
  • Where appropriate, coordinate with surveyors, adjustors, and trades throughout the claims process.
  • Adjust claims within the claims authority granted by underwriters.
  • Update Claims Bordereaux’s where required to ensure reserve limits are as accurate as possible.
  • Submit Claims Bordereaux to underwriters monthly.
  • Ensure all Yacht Claims are entered into TAM and Insly and update the system throughout the claims process.
  • To assist clients as required to ensure the best possible claims experience in our office.
  • Preparing updates/reports, on claims for the Sr. Account Executives and Management as requested.
  • Supporting the implementation of new business directives or initiatives.
  • Acting as a representative at various industry functions.

  • Good interpersonal skills and collaborative approach to be able to work towards common goals.

  • Ability to organize and prioritize work to meet assigned tasks on time and with high accuracy.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently.
  • Ability to work with team members effectively and support others in developing their capabilities through training and mentoring.

 

Must Haves : Education/Experience

  • Chartered Insurance Professional (CIP) in good standing with the Insurance Council is preferred
  • Five plus years of claims adjusting experience, including setting reserves, investigations and settlement.
  • Some experience working in marine insurance is beneficial.
  • Committed to continuous education through reading, workshops, seminars, and conferences.
  • Proficient in MS Office (Word/Excel), Outlook and Epic.
