What are the responsibilities and job description for the Electrical Test Engineer position at Navistar, Inc.?
Navistar has an exciting new opportunity for an Electrical Test Engineer to join our Product Validation team at the Navistar Proving Grounds (NPG) in New Carlisle, Indiana. Navistar is developing leading-edge commercial vehicle solutions to meet the needs of the future, for our customers. The Product Validation team performs testing on class 4-8 diesel electric and hybrid trucks as well as school buses.
The Electrical Test Engineer duties would include but are not limited to, performing vehicle validation testing, diagnosis and repair of vehicle electrical issues. The prospective candidate would also need to be proficient at creating validation test procedures. This testing includes but not be limited to, system integration, computer software, serial communication, components and wiring repair, EMI testing. The testing will be performed on Navistar diesel, electric, hybrid vehicles, school buses and includes vehicles with autonomous driver assist systems.
Responsibilities
Design Test Preparation:
- Perform standard validation testing and provide a written report.
- Troubleshoot and repair wiring harness and electrical system defects.
Test Execution:
- Perform functional vehicle-level validation testing when called for by DVP.
- Problem Solving to troubleshoot root cause analysis for failures of electric circuits and software.
Validation Test Reporting:
Report any test failures or anomalies found during Validation testing.
Engineers will utilize CAN analyzer, Dewesoft, INCA, SOMAT and other data acquisition software.
Prepare and write a final report detailing the testing that was performed.
Test Engineer Deliverables:
- OK to Test form.
- Test data taken during testing to validate the pass/fail criteria.
- Prepare a final report for the validation test that was performed.
- Generate a Pyxis if the testing criteria outlined in the test procedure is not met.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science
OR
- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Engineering Technology or Computer Science and will obtain degree prior to first day of employment
Additional Requirements
- Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
Desired Skills
- Understanding of SAE J1939 Control Area Network (CAN).
- Understand the operation and use of the data acquisition and measurement equipment such as Dewsoft, Somat, Diamond
- Logic Builder (DLB), CAN Analyzer and Lab View.
- Be able to use an Oscilloscope, PicoScope, Digital Voltmeter, and current probes to make electrical measurements for testing and diagnostic evaluations.
- Development of testing process improvements and testing equipment.
- Cummins InSite and Guidanz service tools to read, store, and write ECM and ACM calibrations.
- Eaton Roadranger service tools to read, store, and write TCM calibrations.
- Allison Transmission service tools to read, store, and write TCM calibrations.
- Bendix Acom Pro service tool for all Bendix applications.
