Navistar offers an excellent opportunity for a US Immigration Consultant, whether working remotely or on-site.
The role involves executing the day-to-day US immigration strategy and driving impact by delivering a premium employee experience. The ideal candidate has technical US immigration experience, is highly motivated with a positive attitude, has a high sense of urgency and attention to detail, exhibits patience, teamwork, and critical thinking. They will act as a partner to a variety of internal stakeholders, to smoothly deliver immigration advice, transaction support and training while ensuring compliance with government regulations and internal guidelines. This role will be part of our Global Mobility function.
Responsibilities
- Manage U.S. non-immigrant and immigrant visa filings, including various visa processes such as H-1B, TN, E, L-1, J visas, and green card/permanent residency processes
- Serve as the main contact for HR partners, employees, and hiring managers on immigration matters and collaborate with internal and external experts on tax, legal, compliance, and compensation-related issues affecting employee cross-border movement
- Partner with our external law firms to provide a seamless experience for employees and stakeholders in addressing immigration related queries.
- Communicate effectively regarding global mobility and immigration requirements, government procedures, and case processing times
- Assist with immigration related projects, stakeholder and employee education and consultation, and implementing, maintaining, and reporting on immigration policy matters, including to provide immigration related resources on demand and in a self-service format.
- Develop and maintain process documentation and input data into various systems
- Work with cross-functional teams such as Payroll, I-9, and HR to ensure accurate immigration status reporting for compliance needs
- Process vendor invoices related to the Global Mobility function and ensure accuracy
- Collaborate with global mobility team on other team initiatives and projects as assigned and may be assigned additional program responsibility to meet company growth needs.
- Ability to travel as needed.
Minimum Requirements
- Bachelor’s degree
- At least 5 years of human resources or immigration experience
OR
- Master’s degree
- At least 3 years of human resources or immigration experience
OR
- At least 7 years of human resources or immigration experience
Additional Requirements
- Qualified candidates, excluding current Navistar employees, must be legally authorized on an unrestricted basis (US Citizen, Legal Permanent Resident, Refugee or Asylee) to be employed in the United States. Navistar does not anticipate providing employment related work sponsorship for this position (e.g., H-1B status)
Desired Skills
- Bachelor's degree preferred
- High-volume U.S. employment-based immigration experience within the manufacturing industry
- In-depth knowledge of various visa processes and green card/permanent residency processes and experience in providing consultation on visa applications, USCIS, DOL and consular processes, procedures, and timelines to applicants and internal stakeholders at different levels of organization
- Strong organizational and communication skills and experience handling sensitive matters with tact and diplomacy.
- Experience exercising independent judgment and discretion while utilizing company policies and practices to determine appropriate action.
- Ability to interface effectively with stakeholders at all levels of the organization
- Experience in working independently while contributing within a team environment (remote and onsite)
