Position Description

The Mental Health Technician (MHT) provides direct care alongside a multidisciplinary team to assist and support clients throughout the entire treatment experience. The MHT supervises and observes clients to ensure that clients' physical and emotional needs are met, and clients' safety is maintained.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Facilitate daily schedule for clients, including participating in and providing support during groups, meals, activities, and events.
  • Maintain awareness of clients' needs, actions, participation in activities, and location at all times.
  • Evaluate behavioral and emotional needs of clients and provides response, including crisis intervention.
  • Practice compliance with all recordkeeping and assigned documentation of clients' programming, challenges, and progress during treatment.
  • Review client assessments and treatment plans in collaboration with clinical team to help meet goals and objectives of any individualized service plans.
  • Facilitate therapeutic and psychoeducational skills groups.
  • Promote interaction and engagement amongst program participants.
  • Communicate positively and supportively with all team members, clients, parents, partners, and guests to promote a safe, nurturing environment.
  • Maintain confidentiality of all clients and program-related activities.
  • Assist with food provision such as distributing lunch or snacks.

Knowledge and Skills

  • General knowledge of mental health and substance use impact on individuals and families.
  • Excellent verbal, written and interpersonal skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills with the ability to manage and prioritize multiple tasks.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and familiarity with Electronic Health / Medical Records (EHR / EMR).
  • Knowledge of confidentiality, HIPAA, Title 42 CFR.
  • Ability to demonstrate and maintain professional conduct at all times, interacting with accuracy, honesty, compassion, and respect.
  • Ability to maintain structure within programming, setting limits and enforcing boundaries as needed.
  • Job Qualifications

  • High school degree or GED required, bachelor's degree in mental health-related field preferred.
  • Prior experience with adolescent, teen, or youth populations preferred.
  • Experience working in mental health or substance use settings preferred, 1-2 years of experience a plus.
  • Texas Food Handlers Certification preferred.
