GENERAL EXPERIENCE: One year of responsible experience in clerical, office or retail sales store work of any kind in which the applicant has demonstrated the ability to perform satisfactorily in the position to be filled.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: 18 months progressively responsible experience in retail sales performing the kind of duties which constitute the principal work of the position to be filled and possesses technical knowledge of precious and semi-precious stones and metals as it relates to quality, similarities and differences.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE:
Study completed in a college, university, junior college, technical school or other comparable institutions above the high school level may be substituted on the basis of one-half academic year of study for 6 months of experience provided such subjects relating to diamonds, colored gemstones, pearls, precious metals, etc. At any level, specialized experience may be substituted for required general experience.

- - Articulates to customers the artistic features and functions of various watches and fine jewelry.
- - Describe merchandise features, demonstrate its use, and explain the difference between various similar and dissimilar items.
- - Describes and sells product warranties.
- - Listen to the needs of the customer in order to inform customers of specific merchandise available or to complete special order(s) for merchandise not readily available.
- - Assists department manager in arranging displays in jewelry showcase according to planograms. Sets up promotional displays for scheduled promotional events.
- - Counts promotional items before and after promotional event to determine quantities sold.
- - Operates a cash register or other sales related equipment.
- - Verifies and accepts cash, credit card/checks, etc.
- - Practices loss prevention procedures by conducting audit count of specified merchandise in the fine jewelry department.
- - May train other sales associates on the features and facts concerning watches, precious and semi-precious stones, gold, platinum and silver.
