Comcast NBCUniversal has announced its intent to create a new publicly traded company ('SpinCo') comprised of most of NBCUniversal's cable television networks, including USA Network, CNBC, MSNBC, Oxygen, E!, SYFY and Golf Channel along with complementary digital assets Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow, GolfPass, and SportsEngine. The well-capitalized company will have significant scale as a pure-play set of assets anchored by leading news, sports and entertainment content. The spin-off is expected to be completed during 2025.

Job Description

The Vice President - Washington, D.C. Bureau Chief is a critical editorial leadership role for the MSNBC. This person is responsible for working closely with producers, correspondents and reporters to manage, guide, refine and hone their daily reporting for the many platforms of MSNBC. The position is a highly collaborative, hands-on role and will work closely with multiple senior managers and editorial teams across the Network.

Responsibilities:

  • Leading and managing the daily editorial and logistical coverage process. Help direct the news desk, editorial teams, and correspondents, who are expected to deliver original reporting, breaking news, and differentiated content.
  • Lead and coach editorial teams including correspondents.
  • Drive unique story angles, guide development of stories from conceptualization to completion while also ensuring full coverage on news of the day.
  • Develop relationships with show teams to synergize coverage plans with program needs.
  • Partner and communicate with other news group units (i.e. digital, audio, longform) to maximize coverage as well as coordinate short and long term editorial planning.
  • Work closely with News Digital to integrate reporting across all platforms of MSNBC.
  • Work closely with deputy director to ensure desk and editorial interests align with each other.
  • Ensure all reporting aligns with news standards and practices; provide source approval as needed.
  • Participate in special projects, pitch fresh ideas, lead change initiatives and assist Bureau as needed.


Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree or equivalent work experience
  • Minimum 15 years of expanding editorial experience
  • Minimum 5 years of supervisory/management experience
  • Must be able to foster good teamwork and become a mentor to all teammates and colleagues
  • Must be willing to work Washington, D.C.
  • Works well under pressure and work swiftly to make smart decisions under a breaking news environment.
  • Must be available to work evenings, weekends, and holidays

This position is eligible for company sponsored benefits, including medical, dental, and vision insurance, 401(k), paid leave, tuition reimbursement, and a variety of other discounts and perks.
