What are the responsibilities and job description for the Editor I position at NBME?
POSITION OVERVIEW
We are currently seeking an Editor I to join the Test Development Unit's Licensure 2 team. The Editor I will work with our committee volunteers to create test content used to evaluate health professionals at varying stages of their education and practice.

Primary duties include, but not limited to:
- Edit examination items focusing on development of clinical vignettes and list/chart format items.
- Review items for test flaws and adherence to test development methodologies and provide suggestions to authors for substantive changes. Edit for grammar, punctuation, clarity, consistency of style, and item accuracy.
- Facilitate test committee meetings and actively contribute to the process by using knowledge of content and test development methodology; routinely provide feedback to subject matter experts and edit on the spot while maintaining an accurate record of all committee decisions including exam-specific style issues.
- Develop committee assignments and produce committee meeting review material.
- Oversee and act as mentor for editorial production assistants who are involved in committee support.
- Verify classification coding for test items.
- Perform or utilize pool analyses to ensure consistency and accuracy of item information.
- Utilize editorial platform software and other proprietary systems and programs to manage item content throughout its lifecycle.
Key Deliverables include, but not limited to:
- Ensure correctness of exam items and correct item entry in proprietary systems.
- Produce high-quality exams.
- Meet assigned deadlines.
- Ensure productive, well-run committee meetings with high-quality items and accurate record of editorial changes.
- Participate in exam production as needed (CBT and/or web-based testing exams) and item publishing in test delivery system.
- Communicate effectively with team and staff across USMLE, as well as external clients and physicians.
- Oversee production of work by Editorial Production Assistants.
- Ensure accurate record of editorial changes made during committee meetings/item-writing workshops.
- Ensure assignments accurately reflect current pool analysis.
- Provide support to item writers regarding use of editorial platform software and Sharepoint.
- Adhere to security protocols for handling of proprietary and confidential materials.
- Support the values and culture of the NBME.

Skills and Abilities
- Excellent interpersonal communication skills
- Excellent grammar, punctuation, and spelling skills
- Demonstrated skill in use of computer applications (databases and word processing)
- Foundational knowledge of test development procedures
- Knowledge of medical terminology
Experience
- One year of related experience or a combination of equivalent education and experience.
Education - Bachelor's degree
