The Security Guard is responsible for maintaining a safe and secure environment for employees and visitors by monitoring and patrolling premises and personnel. This is a full-time position (40 hours a week) and work schedule is split between 1st and 2nd shift.

NBME offers a versatile selection of high-quality assessments and educational services for students, professionals, educators, regulators and institutions dedicated to the evolving needs of medical education and health care. To ensure our assessments meet the highest standards of quality, stay relevant and align to the current curriculum in medical schools and training programs, we rely on a wide network of collaborators. These include the volunteers who help develop our exam questions, the committees and panels who represent various groups within the medical education community, external researchers and health profession organizations.
We are committed to meeting the needs of educators and learners globally with assessment products and expert services such as NBME® Subject Examinations, Customized Assessment Services, Self-Assessments, the International Foundations of Medicine® Program and Item Writing Workshops. Together with the Federation of State Medical Boards, NBME develops and manages the United States Medical Licensing Examination®, which measures the ability to apply knowledge and skills that form the basis of safe and effective patient care. Our Competency-based Assessment unit is focused on new methods as well as the optimization of assessment in the workplace and education.
As a result of leadership in ongoing research, innovative measurement practices and the exploration of forward-thinking assessment modalities and improvements, NBME advances assessment science. Our grant and funding opportunities further support this dedication to medical education and assessment science. We help develop the next generation of assessment professionals through our Summer Psychometric Internship Program. Through the Stemmler Fund, Strategic Educators Enhancement Fund and Latin America Grants Program, researchers and educators can continue to improve the assessment of health care professionals around the world.

Compensation we are offering for this position is at $36,640 - $43,300/year. Please note that the offered rate for this position typically aligns with the minimum to midrange of this grade, but it can vary based on the successful candidate's qualifications and experience, department budget, and an internal equity review.

Responsibilities
Access Control
- Provide physical presence to control access to the building, deter criminal behavior, and provide assurance to NBME staff of a watchful presence & assistance to NBME staff in need of service.
- Sign in and out contractors and visitors via paper log
- Monitor alarm system and respond as directed to various building alarms including fire, access control, security, mechanical systems, etc. Report on alarms as directed. Contact emergency services and support services staff as required by standing orders, procedures, or best practice.
- Assist facilities services staff as directed: Examples include greeting & signing in visitors, announcing service providers, answering security telephones, etc.
- Document daily activities in written or electronic format. Write reports of incidents as directed. Maintain an electronic log book of keys and access cards distribution.
- Promptly renders first aid to injured persons. Promptly summons aid as required. Promptly obtains services or assistance for NBME staff and visitors as appropriate. Courteously and professionally answers telephones and two way radios.
- Maintains confidentiality of sensitive or proprietary information.
Skills and Abilities
- Computer fluency of Microsoft office suite (Excel, Outlook and Word)
- Excellent customer service skills to present a secure, professional first impression.
- Interact with a wide variety of people to include employees, customers, and other visitors.
- Troubleshoot and resolve issues using sound judgment.
- Work independently within a team environment to support a 24/7 secure environment
- Quickly assess and define proper emergency policies and actions.
- Maintains organization's stability and reputation by complying with legal requirements.
- A minimum of one-year experience as a security guard
- Experience using CCTV and other electronic security/monitoring tools is desirable
- High school graduation or equivalent
- CPO, Certified Protection Officer from International Foundation for Protection Officer and/or CIPS, Certified Institutional Protection Specialist from International Foundation for Cultural Property Protection desired, but not required
- Experience will be considered in lieu of a certification
