What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Insurance Sales position at NBT Bank?
The Director of Insurance Sales is responsible for the complete management, organization, and direction of the Agency’s Commercial Lines and Employee Benefits Sales Force. Director of Insurance Sales will be responsible for working with Commercial Lines and Employee Benefits Practice Leaders to drive organic growth in existing footprint and expansion markets. The Director of Insurance Sales will be responsible for all sales reporting including prospecting pipelines and bank referral tracking.

- Bachelors Degree or equivalent education and experience
- Minimum of 10 Years of insurance experience in property and casualty insurance or employee benefits insurance, underwriting and sales experience strongly preferred
- Full understanding of the insurance sales process and ability to help coordinate any team selling opportunities
- Ability to multitask and work well in a team environment
- Understanding of markets, products, services and client needs.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Proficient computer skills; Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Agency Management Systems (Applied Epic).
- Ability to manage a large group of people with both individual level goals as well as overall agency goals.
- Ability to set effective and attainable goals for sales professionals and aide in meeting their specific needs to help in reaching their goals.
- NYS Brokers License or P&C and Life Accident & Health Licenses required
- Industry designations preferred
- Valid Driver’s License
- Travel is Required
- 35% Manage and oversee the agency’s Commercial and Employee Benefits Sales Executives to achieve organic growth goals.
- 20% Manage and oversee the agency’s sales management systems and related prospect and production reporting. This will include preparing and sharing data with our NBT Bank partners.
- 20% Depending on Practice Specialization, assist EB or P&C Practice Leader with sales, operational and/or service needs of the department.
- 10% Assist P&C and EB Practice Leaders with the expansion of the agency’s core footprint by coordinating the hiring, training, mentoring and developing new producers.
- 10% Implement and monitor risk management and wellness programs for our high impact clients. Work with carriers to ensure they provide value-added customer service to our clients in accordance with their capabilities.
- 5% Other Duties as assigned.
