This position is located at the Western Region Office in Burke County, NC.
This position is primarily dedicated to greeting the public and other DAC staff, both on the phone as a switchboard operator, and in person in the front lobby of the region office .This employee has responsibility for a variety of general typing and transcription duties, correspondence management, record keeping, filing, database management, telephone responsibilities, as well as greets and directs visitors and staff. This position will have day to day contact with the staff, public and inmates through switchboard duties and as a receptionist in the front lobby. This position will provide typing and disseminating information throughout the region office. Telephone calls and visits will include contact from other staff and other sections of the Western Region Office or other Department of Adult Correction locations, contact with other agencies, occasional contact from businesses such as vendors and service providers also occasional one-on-one contact with inmates themselves. Public contact will be a daily basis for this position and will typically involve scheduling appointments, switchboard operation, providing information, and following up on inquiries. This position will be responsible for usage orders, various inventories, reconciliation of P Cards, Site Security and other duties as assigned by supervisor. Employees work in a variety of environments and may work individually or in combination with other office support or administrative employees. They report to higher-level office assistants or administrative employees, first line supervisors, and professionals. At the higher levels, employees work at higher levels of independence from regular supervision even if working under the supervision of higher-level administrators. Work reflects an increase in complexity or scope of tasks, the knowledge and application of policies and procedures, degree of independence and accountability, and consequence of tasks performed. Working titles for Office Assistant positions may include Typist, Office Support Specialist or similar titles. Employees at this level independently perform a variety of tasks that involve some scope or consequence in support of an office operation, program or work unit. Most time is spent performing tasks that may involve several steps in a process with specific procedural and operational guidelines readily available. Employees may spend a large percentage of time in operating office equipment. The completion of work often involves a public contact role to obtain, clarify, or provide general information regarding the activities of the work unit or program. Work requires a general knowledge of the office policies and procedures in order to communicate information functions and services of the Western Region Office. The work schedule is normally 40 hours per week 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM Monday through Friday with an hour lunch break.
This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits .
The salary grade for this position is NC02. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
“As of January 1, 2025, there are new increase adjustments to the state’s pay plans which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission, effective January 1, 2025. The new salary range(s) will be $32,136-$49,340.” Prior applicants will remain under consideration and do not need to reapply.
