The Licensed Mental Health Professional (LMHP) position is located at Harnett Correctional Institution in Lillington, NC and works in the Sexual Offense Accountability and Responsibility (S.O.A.R) program within the Behavioral Health Section of the Department of Adult Correction. This position reports directly to the Human Services Program Manager II/III. The position with the S.O.A.R. Program is located at Harnett CI. Position provides direct psychological treatment services to adult male offenders who committed sex offenses. Will need to conduct sexual offense specific assessments and is responsible for a caseload of S.O.A.R. participants. Provide group and individual treatment services. Must be familiar with Cognitive-Behavioral approach and Good Lives strategies as well as behavior modification as part of a token economy. Will be required to lead psycho-educational groups to include designing content and group activities. Must communicate and work with other members of the treatment team. Consult with other DPS staff, screen potential applicants and conduct S.O.A.R. aftercare groups. The LMHP may also be asked to provide services to offenders who are not in the S.O.A.R program, such as fielding crises at HCI and triaging referrals for the outpatient program at Harnett CI.

This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits .

  • Documented knowledge of psychological, emotional and interpersonal dynamics that contribute to distress and mental health diagnosis.
  • Demonstrated experience to evaluate, screen and diagnose clients for appropriate treatment; formulate clear goal-oriented treatment plans, and document progress of client treatment.

Minimum Education And Experience Requirements

Master's degree in psychology, clinical social work, marriage and family therapy, clinical counseling or human services related field from an appropriately accredited educational institution. Necessary Special Qualification Requirements Must hold an independent license to practice as a mental health clinical practitioner in North Carolina or have met the requirements to be licensed in North Carolina at the associate or provisional level as a mental health clinical practitioner.

The Division of Comprehensive Health Services is dedicated to providing evidence-based, compassionate, and constitutionally consistent medical care to all offenders in custody. Their goal is to ensure that all offenders receive full-spectrum medical care from the time of entry until their release. The team of physicians, nurses, behavioral health services, dental services, psychiatric services, pharmacy services, and licensed healthcare administration services work together to provide emergent, acute, routine, and chronic health care, as well as preventive medicine at all prison facilities. They also coordinate with specialists and other clinical consultants outside of prisons throughout the state to ensure comprehensive health and well-being towards a safe transition from prison, improving public health, and decreasing recidivism.
