The NCDAC / Support Services / Division of Engineering, Construction, and Maintenance (DECM) is recruiting for an energized and collaborative oriented Maintenance / Construction Technician II to be a part of the Coastal Region Maintenance Team. This position will be assigned to the Coastal Region Maintenance Yard located in Greenville, NC and will be tasked with completing general preventative maintenance and like-in-kind Force Account system replacements. A successful candidate for this position, shall have journeyman level experience in the construction, installation, maintenance, and repair of general systems, equipment, and machinery; be able to work independently to complete work assignments received by a supervisor; read and interpret blueprints; and perform other assigned duties. A successful candidate for this position is expected to train and supervisor incarcerated offenders within State prison environment.
This position will have a duty station of Greenville, NC and requires the successful candidate to commute daily to Eastern Correctional Institution Satellite Yard or other agreed upon location to retrieve the State assigned work vehicle. This State-Owned work vehicle for standard business use and overnight stays when required. This is a full-time position (40 hours per week) with State Benefits. The work schedule is Monday – Friday and may require some overnight travel to meet the demands of the organization.
As of January 1, 2025, there are new Salary increase adjustments to the State’s pay plan which were approved by the State Human Resources Commission. Effective January 1, 2025. The new salary range (s) will be 34,270.00 - 59,973.00. Prior applicants will remain under consideration and do not need to reapply.

The salary grade for this position is NC06. State employees are encouraged to apply for positions of interest even if the salary grade is the same as, or lower than, their current position. If selected for this position, a new salary will be recalculated taking into consideration the quantity of relevant education and experience, funding availability, and internal equity. Based upon these factors, a pay increase MAY result.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies
- Demonstrated experience in at least one journeyman level construction trade skills within concrete, masonry, carpentry, site work, painting, finishes, and / or equipment operation.
- Experience with the tools, methods, practices, materials, and equipment used within the engineering construction trades relating to the maintenance of buildings.
- Experience with reading schematics and blueprints.
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements
High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and one (1) year of progressive experience in the assigned trade areas; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualification May require current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations Part 82, Subpart F.
