The Challenge
We're looking for an Electronics Technician to join our Division 9 Traffic Services team.
In this role, you will:
- Construct and assist with signal installations.
- Diagnose traffic signal equipment malfunctions.
- Perform preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of electronics devices or systems made of several interconnected devices.
- Train junior electronic technicians and verify that their day-to-day field work is in compliance with NCDOT Standards.
- Operate a 24K signal bucket truck.
- Assist in and construct signal installations.
- Lead the diagnosis of malfunctions in traffic signal equipment.
- Assist in and construct signal installations, including installation of aerial span wires and cables.
- Assist in the installation of vehicle sensors in pavement and wiring of complex cabinets.
- Perform skilled work in the diagnosis of malfunctions in microprocessor-based and solid-state traffic signal controllers and cabinets to the module level.
- Read and interpret drawings and wire diagrams.
- Perform necessary installation and repairs using hand tools and field test equipment.
- Respond to emergency maintenance calls during and after normal working hours.
What You Bring
- Ability to direct and supervise work by others.
- Knowledge of standard test equipment used to diagnose electronic components.
- Experience reading and understanding schematic drawings and wiring diagrams.
- Knowledge of the National Electric Code.
- Demonstrated ability to plan, schedule and carry out work assignments effectively with minimal supervision.
- Experience performing manual and physical labor in varied environmental conditions.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- A Class A Commercial Driver’s License with Tanker (N) endorsement. (Don't Have IT? STILL APPLY! You can get it through our on-the-job training within 360 days of hire).
- Strength to lift 80 pounds to shoulder high.
- Ability to safely use and operate an aerial bucket truck up to 60 feet in height without accommodations.
- Ability to perform assigned tasks and understand and follow verbal and written instructions, comply with all safety rules and policies to maintain a safer work environment.
- Ability to perform manual and physical labor involved in the installation and removal of traffic signals and other traffic control devices.
- Ability to work in environmental conditions, including extreme cold and excessive heat, exposure to noise, dust, asphalt, traffic, and heavy construction.
- Safety toe shoes.
Notes
- A pre-employment drug test is required, and we will check with previous employers for the past 3 years about controlled substances/alcohol abuse.
- We may require appropriate licensure by the governing board or commission.
Education & Experience
- Associate's degree in Electronics, and
- 1 year experience in the repair and maintenance of specialized electronic devices, preferably including some responsibility for circuit modification; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
