The Challenge
We're looking for an entry-level Engineering Technician to join our Winston-Salem Construction team.
In this role, you will:
- Assist engineers and senior engineering technicians in the implementation and administration of roadway and structure construction projects awarded to private contractors.
- Assist on minor to complex projects.
- Conduct inspections of every phase of a construction project to ensure it is done according to plans and specifications in a timely and cost-effective manner.
- Perform calculations, computations, and computer/iPad data entry.
What You Bring
- Ability to conduct routine inspections for compliance with contract agreements, standard/codes, permit, and specifications.
- Knowledge and understanding of general concepts, practices, and theories used in construction, construction inspection, and/or construction surveying.
- Computer knowledge and skills using laptops, iPads, and software.
- Experience maintaining standard daily records and reports.
- Experience working in a team environment to complete assignments.
- Knowledge of standards and specifications and plan reading experience.
- Ability to establish and maintain positive communications between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public
- Communications skills to communicate in a clear, concise, organized, and persuasive manner.
- Ability to work safely in an outside environment with exposure to hazards on construction sites including heights, highway traffic, and traversing rough terrain in evaluating highway construction.
- Ability to perform moderate physical activity, including walking, climbing, balancing, kneeling, and standing.
- Strength to lift 50 pounds.
- You can work nights and weekends as required on projects within Division 9.
- You apply a safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Safety toe shoes.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
Education & Experience
- Associate's degree in Civil Engineering Technology, Survey Technology, or a related curriculum; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
