The Challenge
We are hiring an experienced Engineering Technician to join our Graham Engineering team.
In this role, you will
- Work independently performing technical work supporting senior technicians and engineers in the administration and execution of District programs.
- Serve as a lead technician for moderately-complex highway and structure projects associated with driveway permits, encroachment agreements, and subdivision plan approvals issued by NCDOT.
- Conduct independent field inspections on construction operations using plans, contracts, and specifications.
- Perform material compliance inspections.
- Perform complex technical and math calculations.
- Guide junior technicians on assigned tasks.
- Perform office work, including plan reviews, permit submittals, traffic studies, project activities documentation, recording project records and maintenance of project files by hard copy and computer entry.
- Conduct highway construction surveying and layout.
What You Bring
- Ability to establish and maintain positive communication between technicians, engineers, contractors, and the public.
- Ability to apply independent decision-making and the good use of judgement.
- Ability to document and take corrective actions and apply safety philosophy and program to all operations.
- Ability to acquire and maintain necessary technical certifications.
- Experience conducting independent, moderately-complex inspections with limited supervision.
- Experience sampling and testing materials to evaluate acceptance.
- Demonstrated ability to lead coworkers on assigned tasks.
- Skills evaluating and applying engineering judgment to construction plans, contract provisions, and inspection procedures.
- Experience maintaining neat, legible, and accurate records and reports, including computer/iPad entry.
- Strength to lift 40 to 50 pounds.
- Fitness to work in high traffic areas, at heights over water or traffic, and in extreme temperatures.
- Agility to traverse uneven terrain.
- Ability to safely operate a motor vehicle.
- Safety toe footwear.
- Ability to work nights, weekends, holidays and extended hours, as necessary
Education & Experience
- Associates Degree in Civil Engineering, Survey Technology, or a related discipline, and
- 2 years of engineering technician experience, or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
