The Challenge
We are hiring a Resident Engineer on our Jacksonville Construction team.
In this role, you will:
- Provide oversight of NCDOT projects in Onslow and Pender counties.
- Manage contract administration of major construction projects and supervise employees engaged in stakeouts and inspection of roads and structures, including supervising Consulting Engineering Inspectors during contract construction to ensure quality work, timely delivery, environmental stewardship, and safety.
- Prepare monthly and final estimates, warranty reviews, and other recordkeeping.
- Settle project issues through Supplemental Agreements and Claims.
- Respond to inquiries from the public, local government, and media during the life of a contract construction project.
- This position requires scheduling and leading various meetings and daily communications with contractors and subordinate personnel to ensure compliance with contract plans, standards, and specifications.
What You Bring
- Proficiency in plan reading, highway engineering calculations, and familiarity in the operation of survey instruments to stake out lines and grades for roadways and structures.
- Knowledge of contract administration to ensure projects are constructed in accordance with NCDOT specifications, standard drawings, and policies.
- Experience performing engineering analysis on complex contract administration issues and the timely approval/denial of these issues through Supplemental Agreements and Claims.
- Experience supervising staff, including Construction Engineering Inspection staff to meet goals.
- Customer service experience related to solving problems involving explaining engineering concepts to customer groups.
- Project management experience handling multiple projects and work crews.
- Full knowledge and understanding of NCDOT policies and procedures and contract administration
- Communication and supervisory skills necessary to supervise and train staff.
- Ability to work with the public and other units in a positive way.
- Public speaking skills to frequently speak to public groups and the media.
- Ability to make inspections in all types of weather and terrain.
Note
- We may require registration as a professional engineer with the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in Engineering, and
- 4 years of relevant experience, and
- 2 years of supervisory experience; or
- An equivalent combination of training and experience.
