- Posting is for one Transportation Supervisor I position located in Carthage Traffic Services. Positio n will supervise and direct the pavement marking operations within the eight counties of the Division. Position will plan and coordinate pavement marking installations, develop work zone traffic control plans, oversee inventory of paint and pavement marking materials, monitor expenditures, maintain work and inventory records, investigate public complaints, ensure equipment is maintained and serviced, coordinate activities with other work units, train and counsel employees, conduct performance reviews, and assist with interviewing prospective employees. Position is subject to responding to emergency situations after normal work hours and on weekends. Work may include special assignments outside of normal working hours.Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / CompetenciesApplicants must submit an application that clearly reflects work experience that demonstrates the following : Experience with MUTCD Standards and Roadway Specifications in laying out pavement markings including longlines, symbols and charactersExperience in supervising a Special Marking crew or a Pre-line and Passing Zone crewKnowledge in Advance Work Zone Safety and NCDOT Workplace Safety practicesExperience in planning work and supervising a work crewExperience in record keeping, such as tracking employee and equipment time and recording quantities of materials usedAdditional Expectations : Skilled in the use of computer equipment and software such as Microsoft Office, SAP, and MMS . Employee in this position will be expected to climb, bend, traverse steep and uneven terrain, and work in extreme temperature conditions. The selected applicant will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle and have a valid North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License. Either possession of a current Commercial Driver’s License on the date of hire, OR the North Carolina Class A Commercial Driver’s License must be obtained through completion of on-the-job training and all requirements mandated by Federal Motor Carrier Safety Regulations (Federal Registry 49 CFR 383) within 360 days of the date of hire. Release forms ALCDRG-01 and ALCDRG-06 must be signed allowing NCDOT to check with previous employers for the past three years about controlled substances and alcohol.
