What are the responsibilities and job description for the Range Safety Officer position at NC Wildlife Resource Commission?
Ensure strict adherence to Standard Operation Procedures (SOP) for range at all times.
- Monitor all activity on the shooting lanes at all times. Call operation on the range for “CEASE FIRE” and “HOT/COLD” range as needed.
- Know and follow emergency response plans when required.
- Maintenance and repair of range facility/buildings and grounds, including mowing, litter pick up and, also includes cleaning of restroom facilities. Maintenance and repair activities will be performed during periods of slow activity.
- Construct/repair target stands.
- Communicate in a professional and courteous manner with everyone.
- Maintain a well-groomed, professional appearance at all times; wear proper uniform.
- Adhere to NCWRC and USFS policies at all times.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
- Must possess a valid NC Driver’s License
- Once hired must attain (if not already certified) the NRA Certified Range Officer test with a score of 90% or better.
- One-year experience in operating, maintaining, and repairing a sport shooting range.
- Must provide transportation to and from the site.
- Must receive a medical lead and hearing test within 60 days of employment, results must be submitted to Raleigh office to be kept on file.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
- While performing the duties of this job the employee is regularly required to stand, talk, hear, and use hands and fingers to operate firearms, and range equipment.
- Ability to lift 50 pounds.
- Must be able to maintain cleanliness of the sheds, vault toilet, office, and ranges.
WORK ENVIRONMENT
- High noise level. Hearing and eye protection will be required at all times.
- Ability to work outside.
- Ability to stand for an extended period of time.
- Ability to work in all types of weather.
- Attend set schedule as set by NCWRC and SRC.
--RSO may NOT use the range for personal profit to teach classes or training outside of NCWRC programs, or without SRC approval.
