Position Purpose:
               
Responsible for assessing and providing therapeutic/clinical interventions to homeless families who have experienced histories of trauma, abuse, neglect and victimization through diverse relationship based therapies.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Integrates knowledge and understanding of underlying mental health issues and the impact on individual behaviors, needs, and requisite interventions.
  • Conducts detailed and comprehensive assessments of individuals and their family dynamics upon intake into the shelter.  Assesses families for their need for ongoing clinical services.
  • Provides weekly, individual, group and family therapy for residents who meet the criteria for ongoing work.
  • Establishes Individualized Treatment Plans and Family Service Plans for residents who are involved in ongoing clinical services.
  • Provides crisis and early intervention with families struggling with maladaptive behavior, adaptation, and acute mental health needs.
  • Assists residents in developing skills and strategies for dealing with issues that have affected the clients’ current homelessness.
  • Provides individual and family therapy as well as outreach referrals.
  • Functions as part of a multi-disciplinary treatment team in developing individual treatment plans and intervention strategies for working with residents.
  • Prepares appropriate, timely and accurate documentation regarding the therapeutic treatment of residents, to include court reports and discharge summaries.
  • Participates in Team case reviews integrating pertinent information pertaining to the individual and the family.  
  • Contacts external partners regarding client participation ie. Abused Person Program (APP), Drug Treatment and Mental Health Treatment programs.
  • Collects and maintains demographic profiles of GTS families.
  • Participates in all COMAR required trainings.
  • Serves as an advocate for residents’ needs.
  • Develop evidence-based training curriculum and information sessions for the purpose of peer learning opportunities.
  • Facilitate client centered group trainings and sessions.

Non-Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
 
  • Coordinates weekly therapeutic family focused classes.
 
  • Conducts specialized treatment meeting as needed.
 
  • Presents and writes professionally in the fields of residential care for homeless families
 
  • Participates in ongoing continuing education training to remain updated with best practice methods.

Qualifications:
 
  • Licensed Clinical Professional Counselor or Masters Degree in related field
 
  • Experience and knowledge in the areas of social work, child victimization, trauma informed care, homelessness, and crisis intervention and behavior management.
 
  • Experience in individual, group and family therapy.
 
  • Knowledge of child and adolescent development.
 
  • Commitment to and understanding of the residential treatment milieu and relevant teamwork orientation.
 
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills.
 
  • Excellent interpersonal/conflict resolution skills.
 
  • Demonstration of cross cultural competencies.
 
  • Willingness to lead and advocate in the best interest of the residents.
 
  • An attitude compatible with the goals and purposes of the National Center for Children and Families.

Physical Demands/Work Environment:

While performing the responsibilities of the job, the employee is required to talk and hear. The employee is often required to sit and use their hands and fingers to handle or feel. The employee is occasionally required to stand, walk, reach with arms and hands, climb or balance, and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. Vision abilities required y this job require close vision working with a computer monitor. While performing the duties of this job, employee is occasionally exposed to moving mechanical parts and vehicles. The noise level in the work environment is usually quiet to moderate. While performing the responsibilities of the employee’s job, these work environment characteristics are representative of the environment the employee will encounter. Salary: $70,000 - $76,000 annually
