What are the responsibilities and job description for the Engineering Technician I Apprentice position at NCDOT Division of Aviation?

This is an Apprentice Level Position located in the Shelby/Resident Construction Office. This position involves technical work supporting higher level technicians or engineers in construction inspection, surveying, materials sampling, testing, erosion control, and construction traffic control. This position requires the performance of a wide variety of standardized and non- standardized tests and assignments in compiling, analyzing, computing, editing, and processing field data. This work involves limited decision making and use of judgment. The successful applicant must perform a full range of calculations and computations. This position is subject to both inside and outside environmental conditions.
As an entry level professional at the NCDOT, Apprentices are offered a starting salary of $35,984 and are eligible to receive salary adjustments upon successful completion of all apprentice steps. Upon completion of the program, Apprentices will be eligible for a salary of $48,036.
Approximately a 2-year program (Could take longer if requirements are not met.)
Upon completion of the apprenticeship program, participants will receive a Journey-worker card issued by the U.S. Department of Labor.

Safety toe shoes required. The selected candidate will be expected to legally operate a motor vehicle. Employees in this position may be exposed to high traffic volumes, may work at heights over water or traffic, and may have to climb on the substructure and superstructure of bridges. This position must be able to safely perform manual tasks involving the bush axe and other tools on steep and rough terrain. This position is expected to carry testing equipment over rough and steep terrain. This position will be required to lift and carry at least 50 pounds. The successful applicant for this position is expected to safely work high above ground, be proficient in record keeping, and engineering testing equipment.
Offer of employment will be contingent upon successful completion of NCDOT post offer employment evaluation.
