The Challenge
We are looking for an experience Corridor Development Engineer III to join our Division 3 team.
In this role, you will:
- Serve as a liaison between NCDOT and Metropolitan Planning Organizations and Rural Planning Organizations using your knowledge of NCDOT funding along with the needs defined in our long-range transportation plans to formulate strategies for funding needed projects.
- Work with Planning Organizations to analyze long-range transportation plans that have been developed to determine which of the projects included in the plans are most suitable for submission into the Strategic Transportation Investments Prioritization system.
- Conduct complex engineering studies, as required, to fully assess and prioritize the transportation improvements recommended in the long-range transportation plan.
- Develop design concepts and perform traffic engineering analysis to determine the type of improvements needed, scope of work required, estimated costs, likelihood of securing funding, and often includes a preliminary analysis of the environmental impacts associated with proposed projects.
- Work with Planning Organizations to determine suitable candidate projects to be submitted for consideration for funding from the various funding sources outside of the State Transportation Improvement Prioritization(STIP) system, such as the newly established Mobility, Economic Development, and Small Construction funds.
- Serve as our Division 3 primary liaison with local stakeholders regarding new project submissions for the SPOT prioritization process.
What You Bring
- Knowledge of civil engineering principles and practices relating to the planning, design, and operation of transportation infrastructure.
- Considerable computer skills using Microsoft Excel and ArcGIS.
- Experience explaining ideas and concepts to elected officials, citizens, and engineers.
- Working knowledge of transportation planning activities at the Federal, State, and local levels.
- Thorough knowledge of NCDOT programming, planning, scheduling, and funding procedures.
- Ability to attain competency in SAP-based financial and project management tools and applications.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor's degree in engineering, and
- 3 years of relevant experience, and
- 1 year of supervisory program experience; or
- An equivalent combination of education and experience.
Management Prefers
- Candidates registered as a Professional Engineer in North Carolina.
Note
- We may require registration as a professional engineer by the NC Board of Examiners for Engineers and Surveyors.
