The ChallengeWe are
looking for an experienced Roadway Design Engineer II to join our Roadway Design Development & Support team that produces and reviews roadway design plans, lighting and electrical plans, and provides our technical expertise.
In thi
s role, you will:Develo
- p roadway design plans and construction cost estimates for preliminary, right of ways, and final construction plans.Prepar
- e roadway design plans and public meeting maps through the project delivery process using your sound engineering judgement.Coordi
- nate with other NCDOT technical units and Division staff to incorporate their recommendations into roadway design plans.Prepar
- e and review quantities calculations to generate cost estimates for the allocation of funds for Transportation Improvement Projects. Assist
- as a technical expert on roadway design questions from consultants, Divisions, and other NCDOT teams to clarify design requirements.Assist
- in developing roadway design scopes of services and development of project schedules for internal projects.Manage
- , track, and report task progress to meet established project tasks.Assist
- with training of junior engineers, including Transportation Engineering Associates and interns.

- dge of civil engineering principles, especially relating to highway design, AASHTO guidance, Roadway Design Manual, Bridge Policy, NCDOT Standard Drawings and Specifications.Experi
- ence developing and reviewing engineer design plans and details to determine compliance and compatibility with construction and engineering principles, designs, and statutes.Demons
- trated ability to work independently on tasks and track progress to ensure timely completion.Experi
- ence using Bentley highway design software and workspaces (MicroStation, GeoPak, OpenRoads Designer, and Corridor Modeling).Demons
