Position Definition:
This is a Staff Research Associate 2 (SRA2) position in the Biomarker Core Laboratory at the San Francisco VA Medical Center. The goal of the biomarker lab is to develop a panel of new kidney tests that will allow for early detection and prevention of kidney disease. The individual will perform assays in serum and urine samples for the measurement of biomarkers in many studies from cohorts with various disease states.
The research associate will be trained and work under the supervision of Biomarker Core Lab Director to perform laboratory techniques to measure urine and blood biomarkers using a variety of instruments.
Job Description:
- Plan and perform multiple types of assays utilizing techniques including ELISAs and other immunoassays.
- Preparation of reagents and set up of various analytic platforms.
- Perform quality control testing and troubleshoot assays.
- Adjust reagents/platforms as needed.
- Create and establish SOPS.
- Provide general laboratory support (maintain common lab supplies and reagents, order supplies, dispose of waste, update inventories).
- Maintain accurate and detailed lab notebook.
- Perform lab tests on clinical samples.
- Perform analyses of data and prepare data for presentation.
Job Requirements:
- Possess a BA/BS degree in Biomedical Sciences.
- A minimum of 2 years of laboratory experience, immunoassays experience preferred.
- Ability to learn and follow experimental protocols and SOPs.
- Understanding of laboratory test procedures in clinical research.
- Strong track record for accuracy and attention to detail.
- Ability to manage multiple projects, tasks, and priorities to achieve desired goals.
- Strong interpersonal, written/oral communication, and organizational skills.
- Computer literacy with emphasis on Windows operating systems and Microsoft Office Suite including spreadsheets with large data sets.
- Strong computer skills and ability to learn and use instrument-specific software applications.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a team.
The base salary range for this position is $25.24 - $40.60 per hour. The base salary actually offered to a successful candidate will take into account various relevant and non-discriminatory business factors including, without limitation, the candidate’s geographic location, job-related experience, knowledge, and skills, and education, as well as internal equity considerations. A successful candidate may also be eligible to earn additional compensation including bonuses.
