The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a summer intern to provide support in the development of recommendations for funding for transportation in the Dallas-Fort Worth (DFW) region and aid in the implementation of selected projects and programs. The student in this position you will be part of an innovative and award-winning Metropolitan Planning Organization (MPO) that serves the fourth largest metropolitan area in the United States. Tasks generally include conducting funding analysis, researching project histories, implementing action plans, and assisting the team with the implementation of tasks that further the team’s priorities. Ideal candidates should live within the Dallas-Fort Worth region and be able to work at least 25 hours a week from approximately mid-May to mid-August 2025. Continuing employment opportunities may be available for interns who are successful in this position.
Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Entering data accurately and maintaining data quality/integrity
- Researching project histories and working with supervisor to provide analysis to team and/or regional partners
- Supporting project tracking efforts to ensure the timely implementation of transportation projects
- Providing support by scheduling meetings and drafting and preparing agendas and handouts for supervisor review
- Working with supervisor to administer State, federal, and regional transportation funding programs
- Drafting and preparing presentations, correspondence, documentation, project listings, and reports for supervisor review
- Working with supervisor to perform analysis on project listings
Required Skills:
- Good problem-solving ability, critical thinking and interpersonal skills, with the ability to listen to instructions and coordinate with team
- Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing quality of work
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Good communication, both verbal and written
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Required Education and Experience
- Must be attending an accredited college or university in a degree-seeking program (i.e., business, public administration, public policy, government, urban/transportation planning, finance, accounting, or related field)
- No work experience required
- At least one year of school-related experience
Salary
Minimum of $17.00 per hour
