Transportation Planner II – Regional and Corridor Transportation Planning

The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments is seeking a Transportation Planner to support regional and corridor transportation planning studies and travel forecasting analysis activities. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:

• Preparing necessary files for travel model simulations
• Supporting the development of custom travel modeling applications using TransCAD or similar travel model
• Performing computer coding of roadway and transit networks for use in travel demand modeling
• Interpreting and analyzing travel demand forecast results, including daily roadway volumes, levels of service, vehicle miles traveled, and other performance measures
• Producing and working with supervisor to analyzing maps utilizing Geographic Information Systems
• Working with supervisor to evaluate and recommend alternatives
• Preparing countywide needs assessments, subarea studies, city thoroughfare plans, roadway corridor studies, and supporting local government technical assistance requests
• Preparing and delivering oral presentations
• Providing assistance in procurement and contracting functions, including work scope development and consultant oversight on projects
• Providing customer service to partners and stakeholders

Required Skills

• Theoretical and working knowledge of travel demand forecasting process
• Good verbal and written communication skills
• Proficiency in Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
• Strong critical-thinking and problem-solving skills
• Good interpersonal skills
• Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing quality of work
• Ability to work independently and in a team environment
• Functional knowledge of Geographic Information Systems (GIS) principles

Required Education and Experience

• Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods
• At least one year of work-related experience

Starting Salary Range

FLSA: Exempt

Minimum of $$54,009.00 – $64,810.80 annually

The planning area for transportation includes the 12 counties of Collin, Dallas, Denton, Ellis, Hood, Hunt, Johnson, Kaufman, Parker, Rockwall, Tarrant, and Wise.  NCTCOG also serves as a designated recipient for Federal Transit Administration funds.
