The Transportation Department of the North Central Texas Council of Governments (NCTCOG) is seeking a Transportation Planner to support the Transportation Safety Program. This position will support the development and implementation of regional transportation safety coordination efforts and initiatives. Responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, the following:
- Collecting, processing, maintaining, and analyzing regional safety data including crash data from the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) Crash Records Information System, fatality data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System, and hazardous material spill data from the National Response Center
- Developing, tracking, and reporting regional and federal safety performance requirements
- Maintaining and updating the Regional Roadway Safety Plan
- Coordinating efforts for the Regional Safety Advisory Committee, safety projects, initiatives, and data requests
- Monitoring local government program activities for regional systemic and systematic safety improvement projects
- Analyzing and monitoring the Wrong Way Driving Mitigation Project and Intersection Safety Improvement Program countermeasure effectiveness
- Implementing activities for the NCTCOG Traffic Incident Management Training Program
- Coordinating activities for the Mobility Assistance Patrol Program (MAPP), including data collection and monitoring project budget and expenditures
- Collecting and analyzing regional incident management performance measures
- Drafting a regional annual safety performance measures report and assisting with the publication of the report
- Coordinating with regional partners and the general public to promote transportation safety related activities and initiatives
- Developing and maintaining databases and spreadsheets to ensure data accuracy
- Producing and interpreting charts, maps, plots, and reports utilizing Geographic Information Systems (GIS)
- Preparing and delivering oral presentations
- Drafting memorandums, letters, documentation, progress reports, articles, and final reports
Required Skills
- Working knowledge of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, and Excel
- Functional knowledge of ESRI GIS with the ability to create maps and working knowledge of SQL
- Familiarity with safety related data (i.e., crash data and/or crash reports)
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills
- Detail oriented, highly organized, with an ability to manage multiple assignments/tasks and work well in a deadline-driven environment without diminishing quality of work
- Good communication, both verbal and written with the ability to listen to and follow instructions, coordinate with team members, and present ideas
- Ability to work independently and in a team environment
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in analytical, quantitative methods
- At least one year of work-related experience
Starting Salary Range
Minimum of $54,009.00 - $64,810.80 annually
