Hours: 40 hours per week, Typically Monday-Friday, but may require some weekend work.

Position Summary:

The Operation Technician works as part of the Reimagining Spaces project team to support the revitalization of branch libraries over the next 3-5 years. This team will ensure that the physical spaces NCW Libraries occupies are equipped to provide excellent user experience and efficient and positive working conditions for staff. Ensuring that these updates occur on time and on budget is a large focus for this position.

Background information for applicants:
NCW Libraries is engaged in a $10 million, multi-year revitalization of 28 of its branch libraries to ensure that they are safe, welcoming, and inspiring spaces that are positioned to serve the diverse communities of North Central Washington for years to come. 

The library district will partner with cities and other building owners, investing their funds equitably across the district to update spaces and add features that will be unique to each location based on the identified needs and wants of each community. Library interiors will be improved both visually and functionally. This ambitious Reimagining Spaces Project is planned to be completed over the next three to five years.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:

· Participates in facilities remodel and repair projects; may act as a liaison with third party vendors such as plumbers, electricians, low voltage installers, etc.

· Performs construction activities such as framing, insulation, drywall, doors, frames, hardware installation, installation of trim, and base, etc.

· Transports, assembles, and installs equipment, furniture, and shelving. Delivers and removes bulk items from library facilities; arranges for non-scheduled hauling of remodel waste.

· Coordinates redeployment of furniture, fixtures, and equipment to branch libraries and assists with surplus management.

· Assists with repair and maintenance of district buildings; including, but not limited to cleaning, drywall repair, painting, etc.

· Maintains accessibility to NCW Libraries facilities and performs modifications as directed by Facilities Manager to comply with Americans with Disabilities Act. 

· Must meet requirements of consistent and punctual attendance.

· Performs other duties as assigned or required.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities:

· Ability to read and interpret construction plans and specifications.

· Ability to safely operate a variety of hand and power tools; including but not limited to saws, drills, pressure washers, vacuums, blowers, sanders, etc.

· Ability to work on tight deadlines.

Communication:

· Builds trust and works efficiently with diverse staff in numerous locations to accomplish library goals and objectives.

· Works with other departments as necessary to fulfill NCW Libraries’ needs.

· Assists other departments with their workload as time allows.

· Coordinates with building owners or representatives to accomplish work.

 

Education/Experience (Required Qualifications):

· Associates degree, or two to four years carpentry and/or project coordination experience and/or training or equivalent combination of education and experience.

· Valid Washington State driver’s license with clean driving record.

· PC navigation skills in a Windows-based environment.

· Ability to navigate, search and use web functions and software applications (ex: time and attendance systems, intranet, etc.)

· Proficient Microsoft Office Suite skills.

 

Work Environment & Physical Demands:

· Work is performed in district facilities. NCW Libraries operates 30 libraries in a five-county area.

· Exposure to confined workspaces, operation of maintenance tools and equipment, dust, dirt, and fumes.

· Some early morning, evening, and weekend work may be required.

· Frequent, daily travel required within the district to coordinate projects at different branches. Some travel requiring overnight stays is expected.

· While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to stand; walk, sit; use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl and talk or hear. The employee is occasionally required to climb or balance on a stool or ladder. The employee must lift and/or move up to 80 pounds. Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision and ability to adjust focus. The noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.

 

Compensation and Benefits:

· The pay grade for this position spans from $29.21-39.26/hour, with 11 steps in the pay scale. Employees with good performance can expect to receive an annual step progression of 3% on their anniversary date as adopted in the annual budget.
