Vocational Rehabilitation - Dickinson, ND and surrounding areas - Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist

Support individuals with visual impairments in achieving greater independence in their homes and communities by enhancing their quality of life as a Vocational Rehabilitation Specialist with ND Health and Human Services' Vocational Rehabilitation Section. The role features a hybrid work environment with flexibility between office and fieldwork. No direct experience required. This position provides comprehensive, hands-on training to help you excel in providing vision rehabilitation services to those in need.

As a Vision Rehabilitation Specialist, you will assess and deliver vision rehabilitation services to individuals in their home or community. Your focus will be on technology use, communication skills, daily living skills, pre-cane travel skills and aiding social and emotional adjustment to vision loss. You will work together with vocational rehabilitation partners to provide services to support clients with vision impairments in maintaining their independence and employment. Additionally, you will have the opportunity to educate organizations, businesses and the community about the services available through Vocational Rehabilitation by conducting presentations.

To succeed in this position, you must have strong organizational, collaboration and time management skills, along with the ability to communicate effectively with a diverse range of people. You must be comfortable working with clients in their homes (may have steps, pets, and/or smoke) as well as conducting presentations to organizations, businesses, and the community. You must be willing and able to travel as this role requires significant daytime travel-approximately 60% of your time will be spent traveling within western North Dakota, with some overnight stays required. A state vehicle will be provided for your use. You must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds.

To be considered for a Vision Rehabilitation Specialist, you must have the following qualifications:

  • A bachelor's degree in rehabilitation teaching, orientation/mobility, special education, general education, vocational rehabilitation, social work, occupational therapy, psychology, counseling, or other related degree.
  • A valid driver's license.

Individuals selected for any Vision Rehabilitation Specialist I position will be required to meet the Vision Rehabilitation Specialist II qualifications within five years.

Location: ND HHS utilizes a blended workplace model. Depending on the role, employees may work from home, onsite, or both. This position features a hybrid work environment with flexibility between office and fieldwork. Travel within the western part of North Dakota is required.
