Purpose of Residency Music Director:
The Residency Music Director is responsible to the Residency Artistic Director for ensuring the quality of music for all residency programs and performances, and for carrying out the mission of the organization with excellence. The Residency Music Director receives secondary oversight from the NDI New Mexico Music Director, and is a member of the organizations Artistic Staff.
Primary Responsibilities:
Program Oversight and Administration:

Oversees quality and consistency of musical accompaniment and performance for Residency Program

Provides music and audio technical support for related performances and classes
Directing, and Accompanying:
-
Music Director for Residency performances duties include:
-
Creates arrangements for all residency program music
-
Works with choreographers on music needs for pieces
-
Contracts and rehearses Event band and prepares necessary materials
-
Conducts band during all performances
-
Works with Dance Barns/Hiland Technical Directors, and Technical Directors of outside venues, to ensure that the technical needs of the band are met and that the performances have high sound quality

Accompanies classes in Residency Program

Music Director for Hiland Winter Dance Escape. Duties include:
-
Creates arrangements for performance
-
Works with choreographers on music needs for pieces

Contracts and rehearses orchestra/band, including preparing necessary materials
-
Conducts orchestra/band during all rehearsals and performances
-
Works with Hiland Technical Director to ensure that the technical needs of the orchestra/band are met and that the performances have high sound quality

Music Director for Albuquerque Summer Institute
-
Accompanies rehearsals and performances for related special events
-
Available to substitute or assist apprentice pianists as needed
General Duties:
-
Supports Residency Artistic Director and Music Director to ensure that the organizations mission and artistic needs are met
-
Attends all enrichment workshops and meetings, including Residency staff meetings
-
Compiles and maintains program reference materials, including event scores
-
Upholds all Management and HR policies and procedures
-
Other duties as needed
Working Conditions, Environment and Physical Requirements:
-
Functions performed in a variety of environments including: NDI New Mexico offices, schools, residency sites, and other locations
-
Requires reliable transportation and reimbursable in-state travel to NDI New Mexico locations, participating schools, residency sites, and community events
-
Requires weekend and evening hours.

May require lifting up to 25 lbs.

May be required to navigate stairs
Qualifications
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities Required:
Job Specific Requirements:
-
Minimum 5-10 years of experience in job-related duties - experience organizing, directing, and playing for professional performances
-
Experience with music editing and notation software
-
Sight reading and improvisational skills required
-
1-3 years of experience playing in and directing NDI New Mexico (or related) programs preferred
-
College level education preferred
-
Flexibility in work schedule

Excellent verbal and written communication skills

Excellent organizational skills
