Job Title: HIGH SCHOOL HEAD COACH
Reports To: Athletic Director
Evaluated By: Athletic Director and High School Principal
JOB GOALS:
- Help each participating student to achieve a high level of skill and knowledge of the sport.
- Instill in the participants an appreciation for the values of discipline and sportsmanship.
- Develop a positive working relationship with students, staff, administration, parents and community.
ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS: To perform this job successfully an individual must be able to execute each requirement satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability needed for the position.
- Possess a valid First Aid Card
- Complete an annual Bloodborn Pathogen course.
- Be NFHS certified.
- Possess a high level of competence, which may include prior participation in the sport, prior coaching experience, and completion of courses and /or clinics sufficient to provide the knowledge and skill to meet the performance responsibilities described below.
- Has experience teaching, working with, and/or coaching students of high school age.
PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Encourage good sportsmanship, fair play, ethical conduct, good scholarship and desirable pupil-teacher relationships.
- Provide leadership, guidance and training for the other coaches and volunteers in the high school and middle school programs.
- Ensure a fair and consistent system for determining which students make the team, what level of play a participant is assigned (Varsity, Junior Varsity, etc.), what position a participant plays and how much playing time a participant is given.
- Make recommendations to the Athletic Director in matters of scheduling and financing.
- Implement an effective system for ensuring the care by participants in his/her sport and the marking of equipment and supplies. Complete and submit to the Athletic Director an accurate and up-to-date inventory immediately following the close of the season.
- Responsible for and ensuring the supervision of participants wherever they may be present, including in the locker room, playing/practice area, training rooms and on district-provided transportation. Take all reasonable precautions to provide for the health and safety of the participants.
- Plan for and conduct, or assist in organized practice sessions which actively involve all participants in conditioning, skill development and play practice.
- Teach students the skills and strategies necessary to participate in the sport.
- Teach the drills and exercises needed for developing strength, stamina and speed in the sport.
- Take responsibility for the conduct of all players, assistant coaches and managers while under his/her jurisdiction, at home or away.
- Adhere to the school and district regulations and policies regarding the conduct of coaches and student eligibility in sports. Conduct grade checks upon the request of the Athletic Director.
- Ensure the development of lines of communications with parents, students, teachers, administrators and the community.
- Assist with the proper care, maintenance and security of facilities, equipment and supplies.
- Assist in making sure that a student is eligible for initial participation in the sport before they issuance of equipment or participation in practice.
- Assist in keeping a record of all injuries and reports information to the Athletic Director’s office and the Office of the Principal if an athlete may require medical attention.
- Work constructively with colleagues and others for the purpose of improving the quality of an athletes behavior and academic success.
- Assist in all fundraising activities related to his/her sport.
- Assist in the development of the Team Handbook.
- Enforce the expectations for student athletes as expressed in the Neah-Kah-Nie High School Student Handbook.
- Adhere to policies and procedures as expressed in the Neah-Kah-Nie High School Coaches Handbook.
- Perform such other tasks as may be assigned by the Board or administration.

Criminal Justice Fingerprint clearance- Valid First Aid Card

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Significant physical abilities include lifting/carrying, reaching/handling, talking/hearing conversations, near/far visual acuity/depth perception/accommodation/field of vision.
TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
A one-year contract renewed at the discretion of the Board of Directors. Salary to be according to the current salary schedule and extra-duty schedule agreed upon in the Certified Collective Bargaining Agreement.
EVALUATION:
The performance of this job will be evaluated annually by the Athletic Director
