What are the responsibilities and job description for the Seasonal Garden Center Merchandiser position at Neal Mast Greenhouses?
ROLE: The Neal Mast Greenhouses Seasonal GCM is responsible for effectively merchandising and maintaining live goods presentation in Walmart Garden Centers. This position requires an individual that is service focused, can communicate corporate garden center direction, can work independently, and train Walmart associates on Garden Center best practices. Effective merchandising has a positive effect on retail sales. Pricing, displays, product packaging and arrangements, can all drive sales while improving the shopping experience for the customer.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Weekly store visits to assigned store(s)
- Set Garden Center displays (all live goods categories, prioritizing annuals then perennials first) by unloading product off racks and effectively merchandising onto benches and other fixtures. Must work in inclement weather with the exception of severe weather posing safety risks.
- Build and replenish high traffic displays. Assist stores with understanding and following their Garden Center layouts, best watering and merchandising practices. Communicate Walmart Corporate Garden Center direction to Walmart store employees. Water plants when needed.
- Assist with inventory control, product cycle counts and inventory corrections as needed or requested by your supervisor
- Communicate product flow, over-stock/under-stock opportunities back to your supervisor
- Report store opportunities to supervisor - this reporting will include taking photographs of live goods displays and garden centers.
- Clock in and out with Volt and Chronotek with a smart device
REQUIREMENTS:
Hours/Days: Variable schedule (based on number of stores assigned) from 10-45 hours per week – must be flexible. Weekends are required during peak seasons of spring and fall.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent.
Requirements: Must have a valid state drivers license, insured/reliable vehicle, smart phone, and computer/internet access. Ability to work outdoors in the rain (not thunder/lightening), snow/frost, high heat as needed/necessary.
Experience: Previous customer service or retail experience preferred. Previous experience in merchandising, training or teaching a plus.
Abilities/Strengths: Must have excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organizational skills, time management and able to multi-task. Able to work well with a team and be self motivated when working unsupervised.
Physical Requirements: Able and available to travel to and/or between stores. Must be able to spend a long periods of time on your feet. . Must be able to lift, move, carry – pots and/or trays of flowers and hanging baskets weighing up to 30 lbs. Must be able to push/pull rolling racks of potted plants weighing up to 500 lbs (with assistance on heavy racks). Majority of work environment will be in Lawn and Garden Centers in all kinds of weather
