GSS is currently seeking to fill the full-time position of Senior Purchasing Manager., The successful candidate will develop and execute sourcing and procurement strategies and programs, while leading the purchasing function across all three global GSS facilities. This position will report to the President, Global Steering Systems, and is based out of Neapco’s Farmington Hills, Michigan, Global Headquarters and Technical Center or Watertown, Ct. Job Description: Senior Purchasing Manager
Key Responsibilities
- Develop and execute the North American procurement and supply business strategies in in support of business needs and taking into account the optimal organizational structure to achieve those plans
- Overall responsibility for Purchasing and cost estimating activities across the business
- Create and implement best practice purchasing policies, processes, and procedures, to aid and improve business performance
- Identify sourcing approaches and strategies, taking into consideration total cost impacts
- Support the quoting process and ensure timely sourcing of new components
- Manage team of direct reports and associated teams located in North America, delivering the appropriate support needed to ensure corporate and business development objectives are met
- Build and maintain strong relationships with internal departments and customers as well as external supplier partners
- Negotiate, manage, and implement favorable pricing structure on materials from domestic and international vendors
- Monitor supply chain risk and support and/or lead the risk mitigation activities
- Develop contracts, contractual relationships, and contract management to deliver continuous improvement in delivery of goods and services by the supply base
- Develops, plans, and performs due diligence required to support the annual budget process
- Ownership of the purchasing policies, guidelines, and any associated documents
- Identify and execute cost savings initiatives to ensure corporate objectives are attained
- Support make/buy studies and make clear and concise recommendations
- Manage, analyze, and draw conclusions from large amounts of spend data
- Participate in and lead projects intended to drive the commonization of global processes
- Manage and utilize department resources when required to support other regions
- Develop team targets and annual objectives for cost savings and ensure they are met
- Mentor the team during the execution of newly developed strategies to support corporate objectives
- Manage suppliers using KPI’s and metrics to drive performance improvement and ensure quality
- Interface with and report out to leadership teams within North America as required
Required Skills
- Proven leadership and management skills, with the ability to optimize team performance and development
- 10-15 years of strong Commodity/Sourcing Optimization background
- Ability to add value, reduce costs, and make business improvements
- Excellent relationship management skills with the ability to engage, negotiate, and manage key stakeholders and suppliers
- Proven contract management and supplier management experience
- Strong and confident negotiator with the ability to negotiate at all levels
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and influencing skills
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving abilities
- Results orientated with ability to plan and deliver project deadlines
- Knowledge and technical understanding of automotive processes and components, previous experience with driveline purchasing management preferred
- Strong verbal and written communication skills
- Strong organizational, communication, and presentation skills required
- Strong sense of responsibility and ability to work on own initiative
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel, Power Point, Word, and other standard office packages required
- Approximately 20% travel required
Education
- Bachelor’s Degree in Business, Supply Chain, or related discipline
- Master’s Degree a plus.
