Examples of Work
As the Maintenance Specialist I, job duties include:
- Perform skilled labor including smaller renovation projects, office reconfigures, surplus moving and inventory. Skills also include painting, carpentry, moving equipment, delivering variety of items to other offices, point of contact for projects across the agency.
- Enters required information onto required forms, invoices, receipts, and documents to maintain accurate records and to prepare reports and listings.
- Facilitate the efficient pulling, loading, and delivery of surplus, inventory, and forms from offices and warehouse.
- Reports security problems or hazardous conditions to supervisor.
- Cleans, maintains, and repairs all tools and equipment used in the performance of assigned tasks.
- Helps maintain cleanliness of work areas and performs tool and equipment inventory.
- Estimates time, cost, and materials needed to install, replace, repair, or modify office spaces and related equipment and systems.
- Advises in the selection, ordering, and storage of materials and equipment used to complete assigned tasks.
- Reads and interprets prints, layouts, specifications, and written instructions.
- Confers with supervisor concerning construction, alteration, maintenance, and repair projects.
- Inventories, stocks, and monitors supplies. Maintains warehouse area.
- Provides work direction, assignment, review and assistance to third party vendors and coordinates work with other state office, facility or maintenance personnel.
Requirements / Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications: Associates degree or equivalent vocational education in construction, industrial engineering, HVAC, welding, or other building trade. Experience in building maintenance, a mechanical trade, or performing safety inspections, investigations or training may be substituted for education on a year-for-year basis as determined appropriate by the agency.
Other: Applicants must be able to lift or maneuver boxes and/or supplies up to 50 pounds. Travel to all DHHS offices or facilities as needed.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities
Knowledge in the basic use, maintenance and safety practices associated with hand tools, power tools, office furniture, construction renovation, practices, and procedures in office operations.
Skill in hand tools, power tools, maintenance equipment, painting, carpentry, moving office equipment, completing inventory, warehousing, the operation and maintenance of tools and equipment, basic office, and computer skills, including use of e-mail.
Ability to communicate effectively, understand and follow instructions, read and comprehend office furniture prints, reference books and equipment manuals, perform skilled labor in a variety of office settings, troubleshoot or identify issues, assess materials or equipment needed for small renovation projects, install, repair, reconfigure office furniture, office renovations, removing surplus, moving staff, inventory, work in warehouse, perform manual labor, work in tight spaces, identify safety concerns and educate others in safety.
