Responsibilities
Essential Functions
Assists in maintaining a sterile field during surgical procedure through consistent application of aseptic technique.
- Learns and follows policies and procedures for application of sterile technique.
- Demonstrates understanding of identification and transport of surgical specimens.
- Assist OR personnel in positioning patient for the appropriate procedure.
- Assist OR personnel with surgical skin prep as directed.
- Actively participates in the "tear down" and/or turnover of the room following a case.
- Ability to set up cases and pull necessary supplies and equipment.
- Ability to prioritize needs for cases.
- Assist ORS in monitoring, rotating and removing all outdated and overstocked materials and verifies perioperative services par levels are adjusted accordingly. Maintain supply par levels in all areas of the perioperative storage.
- Assist in keeping Service Coordinators and staff informed of supply/instrument shortages/backorders and the plan to meet needs.
- Anticipate prioritization of supplies/instruments when multiple cases are scheduled and resources need to be turned over for subsequent cases of the day in all surgical areas.
- Monitors oxygen, carbon dioxide and nitrogen tank levels: reorders replacement tanks before levels are critical.
- Assist Service Coordinator with reviewing surgical schedule in advance to verify that necessary supplies and equipment are available when needed.
- Communicate with staff and service leaders to assure availability of needed sutures and elimination of waste and outdates. Assist in keeping suture pods stocked.
- Implements cost containment practices by advocating for judicious use of perioperative services materials.
- Serves and a resource for perioperative personnel in matters such as product, instruments and stocking supplies.
- Provides a high level of service for all customers (eg, physicians, health care industry representatives, perioperative personnel) and prompt responses for emergently needed equipment, supplies and instruments.
- Responsible for general upkeep of rooms (locker rooms, lounge, sub-sterile rooms, scrub sink areas, patient care areas, etc) to provide a safe, clean, organized environment for patients, customers and team members.

- High School Diploma or General Education Development (G.E.D.) required.
- Current American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) strongly preferred at time of hire, required within 3 months of hire.
- Clinical experience of at least one year in an accredited hospital with operating room experience preferred.
