Position Summary

The Station Manager is responsible for the safe, reliable, efficient, and regulatory compliant operation and maintenance of the stations. This includes the overall management of Sheldon Power Station, Beatrice Power Station, and the combustion turbines located at Hallam, Hebron, and McCook and includes all departments, as well as supporting staff. This position is the permanent on-site leader at Sheldon Power Station, is expected to be at Beatrice Power Station routinely and as needed for support at all listed facilities. This position reports directly to the Vice President of Production.

Education, Training and Experience

BS degree in engineering, business administration, science or a related field and 10 years of broad-based utility management experience related to the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of generation facilities.

OR

An associate's degree with 10 years' experience in the operation and maintenance of a large steam power plant and an additional 10 years of broad-based utility management experience related to the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of generation facilities.

OR

A high school diploma, or GED, with 15 years' experience in the operation and maintenance of a large steam power plant and an additional 10 years of broad-based utility management experience related to the planning, design, construction, operation and maintenance of generation facilities.


The incumbent must have progressively increased supervisory/management experience in an organization, preferably related to energy generation.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

Plan, organize, direct and coordinate the operation and maintenance of the stations through management of a leadership team. Develop performance standards that are measurable and accountable, track progress, and take corrective action when standards are not met.


Establish continuous personal development, career planning, coaching, training, and counseling at the stations. Incumbent has overall responsibility for hiring, performance management, and salary administration across both stations and the combustion turbines.


Incumbent is responsible for compliance with environmental regulatory requirements at both stations and the combustion turbines.


Ensure processes are continuously improved to make the stations more efficient and increase availability. Work with Doniphan Control Center (DCC) so the production of electrical energy is meeting our system and customer needs. Develop outage schedules that will be used in the rate track model and meet the needs of the DCC.


Ensure fuel supply is scheduled, ordered and received for both stations and the combustion turbines. This will require coordination with the Fossil Fuels Department.


Prepare the budget and control costs for the stations. Coordinate with the various departments and provide input to their budgets to arrive at and approve the overall budgets.


Work effectively with other generation facilities and NPPD Production departments regarding capital improvements, maintenance schedules, budgets, resource sharing and other operational issues.

Salary Information - Nebraska Public Power District offers a competitive starting salary with opportunities for growth. In addition to the base salary range listed below, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range. Successful applicants will be provided more information regarding the incentive program at the time of an interview.


Pay Grade - 18

Typical Pay Grade Starting Salary Range: $14,641.00 - $18,668.00 per month


Travel Required: Up to 25% (With no or minimal overnight stays, less than 3 per month, typically within state of Nebraska) Travel required may fluctuate by business need. This is an estimate and will be discussed further with candidates that receive an interview.

In addition to the base salary listed in posting, NPPD employees may also be eligible for our Annual Incentive Program (AIP) that may supplement total compensation at a level above and beyond the stated salary range.

Retirement Savings

NPPD employees may participate in two retirement plan options – a 401(k) plan and a 457(b) plan. Both plans allow for pre-tax or Roth contributions. After the first six months of employment, the 401(k) plan includes a generous matching contribution from NPPD. The five-year vesting period begins on an employee’s hire date. Our retired employees are eligible for retiree healthcare benefits as well as a life benefit paid out to designated beneficiaries upon their passing.
