Mehri & Skalet, PLLC is now accepting applications for the 2025-2027 Mehri & Skalet Find Justice Fellowship. The Fellowship is designed for recent law school graduates with a commitment to social justice and an interest in impact litigation. The Fellowship provides promising new attorneys with an introduction to our practice, exposure to our clients and nonprofit partners, and an opportunity for a three-month externship with a nonprofit.Since our founding in 2001, Mehri & Skalet has used the law to advance our clients’ interests and to pioneer mission-driven cases. We handle civil rights, employment, and consumer rights class actions; whistleblower suits alleging fraud against the government, financial markets, investors, and consumers; public nuisance claims on behalf of public school districts; cases involving corporate abuse in insurance, healthcare, and other areas; and individual civil rights cases and severance negotiations. Mehri & Skalet is headquartered in Washington, DC, with two attorneys in Illinois, but we handle matters, often with co-counsel, throughout the country.The Find Justice Fellows will work with diverse teams of attorneys and paralegals on all aspects of our practice, including the investigation of new cases, client relations, research, discovery, motions, negotiations, litigation strategy and court hearings. The Fellows will be full-time employees of the Firm for the duration of the two-year Fellowship.After their first year at the firm, the Fellows may choose to spend three months working directly for a public interest organization, such as a direct services legal services organization or a national issue advocacy organization. Fellows can choose their preferred host organization, and the firm will assist with placement by utilizing its existing connections.EXPERIENCE & QUALIFICATIONS Fellows are expected to have graduated from an ABA-accredited law school within the last two years. The Fellowship requires : Strong legal research, writing, and analytical skills and attention to detail;The ability to communicate clearly and persuasively with diverse clients, co-counsel, opposing counsel, judges, paralegals, administrative staff, and other professional contacts;Excellent organizational and planning skills;The ability to carry a varied caseload and to work productively on multiple projects simultaneously;Teamwork and individual initiative;Commitment to and execution of the firm’s core values, including respect, creativity, client-centeredness, and integrity, as well as to our inclusion and diversity framework;Demonstrated understanding of and ability to abide by applicable rules of professional responsibility and ethics;A license to practice law or the ability to become licensed to practice law in a relevant U.S. jurisdiction.COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS Fellow salaries will be determined according to a scale based on law school graduation date. The current range for fellows is from about $95,000 to about $105,000 for individuals who graduate(d) between 2023-2025. Fellows may be eligible for year-end bonuses based on individual and firm performance. Comprehensive benefits include health and dental insurance, a matching 401k and profit-sharing program, and 20 days of paid annual leave as well as paid holidays, paid sick leave, and paid parental leave. The firm pays 75-90% of health insurance premiums. The firm values in-person teamwork as well as remote work flexibility.
