Nature of Work
To perform general maintenance, repair and upkeep of campus buildings, grounds and roads using decision making and problem solving skills with routine matters.
Work requires some independent judgment and decision making skills in routine matters to determine proper work methods, time and materials required for each project. Work requires initiative, the ability to self-direct work and problem solve. Work requires the ability to inspect and diagnose the general nature of problems.
Work may also include general custodial tasks and may require the use of specialized equipment. Work must be performed in accordance with all applicable building codes, departmental policies, procedures and protocols. Work environments will consist of indoor, outdoor, independent work or as a part of a team.
General supervision and oversight is provided to employees in this classification

Examples of Work Performed
Essential Duties:
1. Operate vehicles in the transportation of equipment and materials
2. Mow lawns using power mowers and tractor-operated mowers
3. Planting and upkeep of campus trees and shrubs and other grounds keeping duties as needed, may include applying insecticides/pesticides using manual or power spraying equipment.
4. Remove snow and ice from steps, sidewalks, parking lots and drives using manual and powered equipment
5. Move furniture, equipment, and supplies
6. Perform all duties of Maintenance Repair Worker I
Secondary Duties:
1. Deliver items to offices on campus
2. Perform minor maintenance duties, such as repairing underground sprinklers
3. Set up tables and chairs and bleachers for campus special events
4. Strip appliances and equipment of parts for use in existing equipment
5. Perform routine maintenance on assigned equipment
6. Collect and dispose of trash and debris from grounds, buildings and receptacles
7. Perform maintenance and light construction duties on external structures to include fences, windbreaks and roadways
8. May be asked to respond to emergencies on nights and weekends.
9. Other duties as assigned

Required Qualifications
High School diploma or equivalent
Minimum of 2 years’ previous experience in grounds and mechanical maintenance.

Preferred Qualifications
Ability to read and interpret manuals, blueprints and prepare sketches of equipment or fixtures to be repaired
Physical Demands
The physical demands described below are representative of those that must be met by an employee to successfully perform the essential functions of this position. The physical requirements for this position may include, but are not necessarily limited to, climb ladders, push/ pull, bend/stoop, twist, reach, walk, sit, stand, and assist in safe lifting in access of 75 pounds. Ability to work in extreme indoor and outdoor work environment conditions is required attendance.
