Independent Contractor - Grant Writer

About the Role:

We are seeking an experienced Contract Grant Writer to support our organization in securing funding from state and county sources. This position is seasonal and contract-based, requiring expertise in responding to requests for proposals (RFPs) and navigating the complex requirements of government funding. The Grant Writer will collaborate closely with our finance department and other stakeholders to develop compelling proposals that align with funding priorities.

Responsibilities:

• Research, develop, and write grant proposals for state and county funding opportunities.
• Collaborate with internal teams to gather necessary documentation such as insurance details, program budgets, and grant requirements.
• Prepare technical and persuasive grant narratives that align with the mission and goals of the organization.
• Manage multiple grant proposals throughout the contracting season, which may last for a full year depending on funding opportunities.
• Assist in gathering supporting documents and ensuring compliance with all state and county grant application guidelines.
• Track and monitor proposal deadlines, submission requirements, and funding announcements.
• Stay informed about DNR funding and other relevant state funding initiatives.

Requirements:

• Proven experience in grant writing for state and county funding, particularly in the social services sector.
• Strong understanding of government contracts, funding regulations, and RFP processes.
• Experience working with nonprofit organizations (at least two nonprofit grant proposals per year).
• Ability to work independently as an independent contractor on a per-proposal basis (approximately 36-40 hours per proposal).
• Exceptional technical writing skills with a keen eye for detail and compliance requirements.
• Proficiency in grant tracking, budget preparation, and reporting.
• Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple proposals during peak seasons.

Contract Details:

• Not a full-time position; work is project-based, depending on available grants.
• Contracting season may extend throughout the year, with periods of increased proposal activity.
• Preference for candidates or companies specializing in grant writing.
